HexPly® M47

Product catalog summary
Description: HexPly® M47 is a toughened, self-extinguishing epoxy resin matrix designed for the performance car market. It cures at 140°C and offers good strength retention at elevated temperatures, excellent processability, and surface finish. Its high glass transition temperature (Tg) makes it a viable alternative to 180°C curing matrices when lower curing temperatures are needed.
Benefits and Features: The product boasts good tack and drape characteristics, toughness, long shelf life, excellent surface finish, high Tg (>150°C), and good strength retention at high temperatures.
Resin Matrix Properties: The resin is transparent with a density of 1.24 g/cm³. It has a curing enthalpy of 421 J/g and gel times of 8-13 minutes at 120°C and 2-3.5 minutes at 140°C. The Tg after curing is 143°C at 120°C and 155°C at 140°C.
Cured Prepreg Properties: For woven carbon prepreg, the tensile strength at 23°C is 1823 MPa, and the modulus is 213 GPa. For unidirectional carbon prepreg, the tensile strength is 920 MPa, and the modulus is 60 GPa. Various other mechanical properties are detailed, including compressive and flexural strengths.
Curing Conditions: The product can be cured at 120°C or 140°C for 90 minutes under 1-7 bar pressure. Curing above 140°C does not increase the Tg further.
Storage Life: The out life is 30 days at room temperature, and the shelf life is 12 months at -18°C. Proper storage conditions are essential to maintain product integrity.
Precautions for Use: Standard safety precautions should be observed when handling uncured resins and fibrous materials. A Safety Data Sheet is available.
Additional Information: Hexcel provides a wide range of composite materials for aerospace and other industries, including carbon fiber, structural adhesives, and honeycomb panels. For more information, contact Hexcel through their website or toll-free number.
