It provides a hard and tough coating with good resistance to abrasion, seawater, and crude oils. It is suitable for ballast water tanks and as a primer for epoxy systems for atmospheric or in-water service.
Recommended Use: HEMPADUR 17633 is for cold/temperate climates, while HEMPADUR 17630 is for temperate to warm climates. It is suitable for application down to -10°C/15°F.
Service Temperature: Maximum dry exposure is 120°C/248°F. For in-water service, the maximum temperature is 40°C/105°F.
Certificates/Approvals: Tested for non-contamination of grain cargo and complies with EU Directive 2004/42/EC.
Physical Constants: The product has a semi-flat finish with a volume solids percentage of 69 ± 1. The theoretical spreading rate is 4.6 m²/l at 150 microns. VOC content is 303 g/l for HEMPADUR 17630 and 328 g/l for HEMPADUR 17633.
Application Details: The mixing ratio is 4:1 by volume. Application methods include airless spray and brush. The pot life is 2 hours at 20°C/68°F. Indicated film thickness is 150 microns dry and 225 microns wet.
Surface Preparation: New steel should be cleaned thoroughly with detergent and abrasive blasting to minimum Sa 2½. For maintenance, power tool cleaning to St 3 or abrasive blasting to Sa 2½ is recommended.
Application Conditions: Application and curing should proceed at temperatures above -10°C/14°F for CURING AGENT 98420 and 0°C/32°F for CURING AGENT 97330. Adequate ventilation is required in confined spaces.
Remarks: Epoxy coatings may chalk in outdoor exposure and become more sensitive to mechanical damage at elevated temperatures. Film thickness may be adjusted based on use, affecting spreading rate and drying time.
Safety: Handle with care and follow all safety labels and regulations. Use HEMPEL'S TOOL CLEANER 99610 for cleaning tools.
