Technical Data Sheet – PropOne™ Chemical Removal System-1

Technical Data Sheet – PropOne™ Chemical Removal System Description PropOne Chemical Removal System is a two can system comprising: 1. Silicone Remover for the removal of PropOne Clear Coat 2. Paint Stripper for the removal of PropOne Primer The System is designed for use in situations where dust from removal of the PropOne scheme using a mechanical abrader is undesired and can safely be used indoors provided there are no ignition sources and adequate ventilation is present. The Silicone Remover is an acidic gel specifically formulated to dissolve the silicone-based PropOne Clear Coat. The Paint Stripper is a neutral, water-based coating stripper formulation used to remove the underlying primer coating once the removal of the PropOne Clear Coat is complete. Both products are free of toxic, carcinogenic and corrosive solvents such as Dichloromethane (DCM), NMP and phenol. Coverage PropOne Silicone Remover: 15m2 per litre PropOne Paint Stripper: 15m2 per litre NOTE: Coverage is approximate and multiple coats may be required. Recommended Substrates Steel and bronze propellers and underwater running gear. Paint Stripper may soften or even dissolve some plastics. Please check beforehand by testing a small area and seeing if plastic if affected. Do not allow coating of Silicone Remover to dry out during use if conditions are hot or windy. This can be achieved by encasing or wrapping the surface in clingfilm or enclosing individual propeller blades on plastic bags fixed in place with elastic bands or cable ties. This product can be used elsewhere as a general-purpose silicone remover, to remove silicone residues <0.5 mm thickness. PropOne Paint Stripper can also be used to soften and aid removal of other coatings used in the marine sector such as antifouling, 2-pack epoxy, decorative alkyds, enamels and clear coat varnishes. It will not strip high gloss PU topsides coats or gelcoat. Method Statement – PropOne Silicone Remover and Paint Stripper Silicone Remover 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Remove all marine growth from area to be stripped and re-coated. Apply Silicone Remover approx. 2mm thick using a brush. Take care of dripping on vertical or overhanging surfaces. In hot and/or windy conditions drying out of the Silicone Remover can be prevented by covering the treated area with cling-wrap Do not allow the Silicone Remover to come in contact with water. This will deactivate the product. Leave Silicone Remover in contact with coating to be stripped for 2-3 hours or until softened. Remove with a stiff nylon or wire brush, scrubbing in a circular motion. Wipe off any remaining residue with a xylene or toluene-soaked cloth. If unsoftened silicone clearcoat remains after scraping, apply second coat of stripper. When all silicone residue has been removed, proceed to apply the Paint Stripper.

Leave the Paint Stripper in contact with the coating for at least 15 minutes or until primer coat has softened. Paint Stripper remains effective while in a wet state. Once PropOne Primer Coat has softened, scrape off coating with slight pressure and appropriately dispose of waste. A wire brush, strong scourer or paint scraping tool are recommended. If paint remains after scraping, apply a second coat of Paint Stripper. Wipe off any remaining residue with an...
