Gemlock folding strut installation guide

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Gemini Marine Canvas & Marine Products provides high-quality marine products since 1994. This document outlines the installation procedure for Gemlock folding struts, which are designed to enhance leverage and functionality in marine applications.
Materials Required
  • 2 assembled Gemlock struts
  • 4 Gemini sliding side mounts and 4 eye ends
  • Masking tape
  • Line, straps, or string
  • Permanent marker
Installation Steps
  1. Positioning Struts: Place struts inboard or outboard of the frame, as high as possible for optimal leverage.
  2. Mounting Side Mounts: Tension the frame using straps or line. Position and secure the sliding side mounts parallel to the fabric edge, and install eye ends facing each other.
  3. Marking Tubing Ends: Tape a line to the eye ends and mark where the tubing will end in the socket. Ensure markings for port/starboard and forward/aft are clear.
  4. Hinge Positioning: Fold the frame back onto its aft legs to determine the correct hinge position. Mark the bottom of the slack patterning line to avoid incorrect hinge placement.
  5. Final Installation: Remove patterning strings, transfer marks to strut tubing, and cut accordingly. Install struts in the correct position, tension the frame, and secure the joint by sliding the locking sleeve over the hinge.
Key Considerations
  • Ensure struts are placed as high as possible for maximum leverage.
  • Correct hinge placement is crucial to prevent binding or misalignment.
  • Adjust tension carefully to maintain proper storage position of folded struts.

Step 3: Tape a length of string, line or tape to the eye ends. Mark each end of the line at the base of the eye end where the tubing will end in the socket. Mark port/starboard sides and forward/aft ends. Leave marking line taped in place. Step 4: To find the correct position for the hinge in the strut, fold the frame (in this case a bimini) back onto its aft legs. For boats with a backstay passing through the bimini fabric, fold all bimini frames up to the backstay and secure. Pull the slack patterning line down alongside the folded frame and mark the very bottom. Incorrect hinge placement will...
