FUTURE PROJECT
Open the catalog to page 1„HYDROGEN IS THE FUEL OF THE FUTURE. NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE FUEL EVEN CLOSELY REACHES SUCH A BROAD AND INTERNATIONAL CONSENSUS. THE FRONIUS, FRAUSCHER AND BITTER CORPORATIONS HAVE USED THE AVAILABLE FOUNDING RESOURCES IN AN OPTIMAL WAY AND CREATED A FORWARD-LOOKING AND REMARKABLE CONCEPT." Dipl.-Ing. Dr. techn. Univ.-Doz. Viktor Hacker Head of the Christian-Doppler-Laboratory for Fuel Cell Systems at the Technical University Graz, Austria
Open the catalog to page 2FUTURE PRÛJECT The project was initiated at the Fronius plant in Sattledt which is an exemplary model for a future energy provide almost solely supplying renewable energy. The idea to realize an emission-free fuel-cell-propulsion for boats was born together with the companies Bitter and the Frauscher shipyard. Dl Sepp Hoyer was named project coordinator and with the founding of the "Energy Technology Program" issued by the state of Upper Austria, it was possible to realize the first worldwide hydrogen-powered electric boat ready for serial production. A unique overall solution was created...
Open the catalog to page 3For over 60 years the name Fronius has stood for intensive research and the constant search for new, innovative solutions. Fronius has tasked itself with helping to design a sustainable future. Research into renewable sources of energy is at the top of its list of priorities. FRONIUS IS THE RECOGNIZED LEADER IN ITS THREE DIVISIONS: • In battery charging, Fronius is a forerunner in terms of energy and cost-saving charging technologies In welding technology, Fronius has proven itself to be a reliable partner for industry worldwide where high quality is paramount • In photovoltaics, Fronius...
Open the catalog to page 4THE FUEL CELL: AN IDEA WITH A FUTURE A fuel cell is an electrochemical power generator which oxidizes hydrogen and converts it directly into high-quality energy. The only emissions from this so-called „gas-powered battery" are pure water. This principle was discovered in the 19th century and the first practical application of an alkaline fuel cell was in 1963 for the Gemini mission of the American space program. Hydrogen is a universal energy carrier that can be generated relatively easily with the help of renewable energies (e.g. photovoltaics or wind) and then efficiently converted...
Open the catalog to page 5Bitter GmbH was established as an engineering bureau in 1989 and has achieved continual growth ever since. The firm employs a workforce totaling 120 in Austria, Germany (Ludwigsburg & Munich) and the USA (Detroit). Many years of experience in developing the broadest range of components for machinery, engines and automobiles has given the company its mastery in the entire development chain from components, subassemblies or entire modules. Bitter covers every area from design to construction, simulation and testing through to provision of prototypes. The bitter team consists of highly...
Open the catalog to page 6THE TANK SYSTEM FROM BITTER Our own development hydrogen high-pressure cartridge system with distributor station provides users with hydrogen simply and at the point where they need it. The user can easily exchange an empty cartridge for a full one at the distributor station. Payment for the service is fully automated. THE BITTER HYDROGEN TANK SYSTEM STS 261 The hydrogen pressure tank system from Bitter GmbH brings together two tanking possibilities in a single system. Re-fuelling is done using a standard 350 bar filler coupling on the one hand plus simple exchanging of an empty cartridge...
Open the catalog to page 7Since 1927 the Frauscher shipyard develops sailing, electric- and motor boats with an exceptional international reputation based on a reliable combination of excellent craftsmanship, functional, forward-looking technology, top materials and remarkable appearance. Frauschers designers, engineers, and boat-builders are dedicated watersport enthusiasts and idealists, that have turned their calling into their profession. Due to their longlasting experience and commitment they form a professional team that perfectly well understands why quality comes before quantity. Rare characteristics, such...
Open the catalog to page 8THE WORLDWIDE FIRST HYDROGEN POWERED ELECTRIC-BOAT READY FOR SERIAL PRODUCTION For years the Frauscher shipyard has been ambitiously developping alternative propulsion systems. Electric engines with batteries to store energy have become increasingly popular as combustion engines have mostly been banned from European lakes. Long battery charging hours and decreasing power capacities after longer journeys diminuish the boating pleasure. THAT IS EXACTLY WHERE THE ADVANTAGES OF A FUEL-CELL-STYSTEM TAKE EFFECT • Long battery charging hours (8-1 Oh) are replaced by re-fueling times of a few...
