Engine Design and Features

The engine features a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder head with 4 valves per cylinder and hydraulic lash adjusters. It uses double overhead camshafts and oil-cooled pistons with compression and scraper rings. The crankshaft is supported on five bearings, and timing is driven by a metal chain.

Flexible antivibration engine mounts are standard. The lubrication system includes an easily replaceable oil filter on top of the engine, an oil vapor separator, and integrated cooling with the engine coolant.

Fuel and Air Systems

  • Common rail fuel injection system controlled by a proprietary CMD electronic control unit (ECU) designed specifically for marine applications.
  • Fuel filter includes water separator and alarm.
  • Air intake system includes an air filter and vents oil vapors into the intake air.

Cooling System

Two variants are available:

  • Disassembled panel (standard for sterndrive and jetdrive) with alarm lights, key block, and separate tachometer (5" standard, 4" optional). The tachometer uses CANBUS technology with multifunction display showing alarms, engine hours, coolant temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, turbo pressure, fuel level, trim angle, rudder angle, and water tank level. Supports CANBUS J1939 and is expandable to NMEA2000.
  • Assembled panel (standard for gearbox applications) integrating tachometer, alarm lights, and key block.

  • In-line gearboxes: TM345 with ratios 1.54:1, 2.00:1, 2.47:1; ZF25 with ratios 1.97:1, 2.80:1.
  • Coaxial gearbox: ZF45C with ratio 1.00:1.

Performance and Reliability

The 13HPE engine is designed for both recreational and commercial use, capable of up to 3000 operating hours per year. It delivers high power-to-displacement ratio and first-class performance under all operating conditions.

The proprietary ECU, developed over 10 years by CMD, optimizes the Bosch common rail system and includes unique control strategies such as anti-shutdown during gear engagement and rapid gear changes, ensuring high performance within emission limits.
