Ezzy Freeride Tuning:
  • Downhaul: Use the swoosh between #2 and #3 battens to set the downhaul. Max setting for strong wind, min for light wind.
  • Outhaul: After downhauling, set the boom to the end of the string and outhaul the sail to the end of the boom, using up to 6.0 cm of positive outhaul for strong wind.
  • Batten Tension: Use the tensioner key to eliminate vertical wrinkles on either side of the batten pocket.
  • Batten Profile: Battens will look different when loaded with wind compared to when unloaded.
  • Tack Strap: Wrap the downhaul line around the mast base, tension the tack strap until a small wrinkle appears, then wrap it over the downhaul line and loop it under itself.
Common Questions:
  • Positive Outhaul: Necessary for high wind due to the sail's design.
  • Sail Longevity: Store in shade, avoid creasing, and store sleeve-end down.
  • Rinsing and Drying: No need to rinse with fresh water or dry before rolling.
  • Rolling the Sail: Tuck the pad along the sail, wrap the tack strap around, and attach the velcro.
  • Inserting into Bag: Insert sleeve-end first to avoid wrinkling the clew.
  • Vinyl Window Care: Clean with fresh water and a dry towel; haziness from fresh water will clear once dry.
Problem Solving:
  • Bat Noise: Normal due to the profile.
  • Jerk Forward: Caused by too little downhaul or a stiff mast top.
  • Sail Power Issues: Adjust outhaul and downhaul accordingly.
  • Arm Pull: Adjust outhaul, downhaul, and harness lines.
Ezzy Mast:
  • The Freeride works on both skinny and regular diameter masts.
  • Skinny masts are stronger, lighter, and easier to maneuver.
Suggested Masts: Sizes range from 430 to 490 for sails from 5.5 to 8.5.
