FlaxTape© is a patented tape made of unidirectional flax fibers, suitable for various conventional processes such as infusion, RTM, film stacking, and prepreg. It is available in different weights: 50g/m², 70g/m², 110g/m², and 200g/m², all with a width of 40 cm.
FlaxTape© is used in sports equipment (rackets, bicycle frames, skis, boards) and transportation sectors (aeronautics, automotive, boat manufacturing, railway). Key advantages include dampening properties, weight reduction, mechanical and acoustic properties, and being a bio-based material.
For composites made with 12 layers of FlaxTape© 110 and epoxy resin processed by RTM:
- Fiber Volume: 50%
- Traction (ISO 527): Modulus 35 GPa, Tensile strength 365 MPa, Failure Strain 1.35%
- Flexion (ISO 14 125): Modulus 31 GPa, Max Strength 294 MPa, Failure Strain 2.6%
- Theoric Density: 1.31 gr/cm³
- Fiber Volume: 43%
- Traction (ISO 527): Modulus 33 GPa, Tensile strength 275 MPa, Failure Strain 1.22%
- Flexion (ISO 14 125): Modulus 23 GPa, Max Strength 210 MPa, Failure Strain 2.1%
- Theoric Density: 1.13 gr/cm³
Low frequency dampening (flexion/mode 2) shows a dampening ratio of 1.47% for UD Flax, compared to 0.18% for UD Carbon and 0.15% for UD Glass.
