We are pioneers who want to provide our customers with the best thrusters for their specific situations. Obviously, electrically driven thrusters because we believe that the future energy source or better ‘storage’ will be batteries, fuel cells, Methanol, Ammonia, synthetic fuel, you name it, the energy will be used through an electrical conversion. That’s why we believe that electrically driven thrusters are the most flexible and economic way of propelling your vessel for the foreseeable future.

Open Propeller Operating speed between 8-15 knots An open propeller is best when the vessel’s speed is above 10 to 13 knots (18 to 24 km/h). The vessel speed determines the optimum propeller diameter. When the vessel speed is rather high, the propeller diameter will be smaller than when the vessel speed is low.

Afbeelding heeft een te lage resolutie, graag een high res afbeelding opvragen Current Motion thrusters are designed to be able to use a rather big propeller diameter to have a maximum efficiency when the vessel speed is low. Due to the electric drive and the selection of the gear ratio's, Current Motion offer the possibility to use the thruster at maximum load also with a smaller propeller, since the drive line is designed in a way that the thruster can be used within the propellers most efficient range, with a smaller or bigger diameter. To have a low sound level Current Motion will use a...

Data sheet for low and medium vessel speed 360-Degree Azimuth thrusters can rotate 360 degrees, making vessels highly rotational capability maneuverable for docking and positioning tasks. Type Power (kW Prop diam (mm) Compact design Azimuth thrusters are compact and space-efficient, making them ideal for installation on various vessels, including cruise ships, tankers, and transport boats. Despite their small size, they offer powerful propulsion and steering capabilities. High Thrust-to-Power Azimuth thrusters provide efficient propulsion for vessels of ratio different sizes and conditions...

Ducted Propeller (Nozzle) Operating speed between 0-10 knots A ducted propeller is the best solution when the operating speed of the vessel is below 10 knots (18,5 km/h). Due to the shape of the nozzle around the propeller, it acts like an airplane wing, where the water speed around the wing shape generates extra thrust due to the ‘lift’ effect of the nozzle.

Ducted Propeller (Nozzle) Optimizing performance The lift force generated by the water flow around the nozzle can develop around 50% of the propeller thrust at zero speed. The resulting force generated by the lift of the nozzle decreases when the water speed increases. The propeller diameter with a nozzle is smaller than an open propeller since the nozzle needs space as well. To take not too much space, the propeller diameter is smaller which makes that it has a higher blade load and brings a higher water speed through the nozzle which enlarge the effect of the lift force of the nozzle....

Ducted Propeller (Nozzle) Technicalinformation Increased efficiency A nozzle around the propeller of an Azimuth thruster enhances its efficiency. It directs water flow better, creates lift force, and improves thrust performance. This leads to fuel savings and lower operating costs, especially at low vessel speeds. Data sheet Type Power (jkW Prop diam (mm Gross Thrust BP (jkN) Enhanced maneuverability The vessel's maneuverability is improved with the nozzle design, enabling precise control of thrust direction in confined areas such as harbors, ports, and narrow waterways. Improved bollard...

Counter Rotating Propellers (CRP) Propellers rotating in opposite directions When there is little space or a low vessel draught, Current Motion can deliver thrusters with counter rotating propellers (also called contra rotating propellers).

Catalog Current Motion - 13

Counter Rotating Propellers (CRP) Optimizing performance The power will be divided over the two propellers and lower the blade load in a way that it creates the possibility to use smaller propeller diameters with a good efficiency. The efficiency gain of counter rotating propellers are about 15% in relation to a single propeller. Due to the lower blade load the emitted noise is lower than a single propeller. Widely applied Counter-rotating propellers are often used in cruise vessels or ferries where noise levels need to be as low as possible due to the passengers on board. Also, when there...

Data sheet Increased thrust Counter-rotating propellers generate higher thrust levels than single- and efficiency propeller designs, leading to improved propulsion efficiency and better fuel economy for the same power input. Type Power (kW Prop diam (mm) Reduced propeller Counter-rotating propellers reduce vibrations and noise levels by -induced vibrations counteracting rotational forces. This results in smoother and more comfortable voyages. Increased comfort Counter-rotating propeller configuration reduces blade load and noise levels in the propulsion system, making it ideal for vessels...

Tunnel Thruster Electric or hydraulic driven Tunnel thrusters positioned at the bow or stern of a vessel, can increase the maneuverability and support dynamic position operations. We can supply electric or hydraulic motor-driven tunnel thrusters from 35kW to 100kW in single propeller and 45kW to 150kW counter rotating execution. CR tunnel thrusters can be chosen for vessels with limited draught or low noise requirements. Depending on the vessel hull material, the tunnel structures can be manufactured in steel, aluminum, or GRP. Control by systems A full plug and play system is incomplete...
