Product catalog summary
Introduction to Corrosion and ICCP Systems
Corrosion is a major concern in marine environments, affecting hull plates, weld seams, and components like bow thrusters and rudders. Cathelco's Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems are designed to address these issues, improving vessel integrity and reducing maintenance costs.

Cathelco ICCP Systems
Cathelco's ICCP systems are installed on over 10,000 vessels worldwide, including cruise ships and ice-class vessels. They feature C-Max anodes, which are lightweight, diver-changeable, and easy to install. The systems also offer specialized protection for thruster tunnels and advanced shaft earthing and rudder bonding equipment.

ICCP System Components
The ICCP system includes linear and disc anodes, reference electrodes, and control panels. Linear anodes are made from titanium with a mixed metal oxide coating, while disc anodes are used for forward systems. Reference electrodes monitor electrical potential, allowing control panels to adjust anode output.

Control Panels
Cathelco provides various control panels, including thyristor panels for systems up to 1,000 amps and modular panels for up to 350 amps. These panels are reliable and user-friendly, featuring digital displays and alarms.

Shaft Earthing and Thruster Protection
Cathelco offers shaft earthing assemblies to prevent propeller shaft bearing corrosion. Their thruster tunnel systems protect bow and stern thrusters, using flush-mounted anodes and reference electrodes to minimize turbulence and enhance performance.

Conclusion
Cathelco's ICCP systems provide a comprehensive solution to marine corrosion, combining advanced technology with practical features for long-term vessel protection and reduced maintenance needs.

Cathelco ICCP for ships-2

The Problem of Corrosion Corrosion takes many forms in the marine environment. It can be seen as pitting on hull plates; in the disintegration of weld seams; around bow thrusters and on the surfaces of rudders and other vital components. A well designed ICCP system can eliminate these problems, safeguarding the structural integrity of the vessel and significantly reducing maintenance costs throughout its operational life. By installing a Cathelco system you can have the advantage of world leading ICCP technology combined with the expertise which goes with wide understanding of corrosion problems...

Most operators recognise the need to combine modern hull coatings with a purpose designed impressed current cathodic protection system. The C-Shield system suppresses corrosion on the wetted surface of the hull using an arrangement of hull mounted anodes and reference electrodes connected to a control panel. This neutralises ‘corrosion cells’ and eliminates problems that arise through dissimilar metals and the proximity of components such as propellers. How ICCP systems operate The most important feature of an ICCP system is that it automatically detects the electrical potential at the hull/seawater...

ICCP Linear Anodes Faster and more reliable installation with self-torquing snap nuts Smaller footprint – fewer fixings C-Max anodes have been developed by Cathelco to combine maximum performance with numerous features which speed-up installation. The advanced design means they are exceptionally lightweight and can be easily carried by one man. They also have a small footprint which means that fewer fixings are required, reducing installation time. Diver changeability is another key feature enabling them to be replaced without the need for drydocking. Self torquing snap-nuts save time and effort...

ICCP Disc Anodes Designed to be easily diver changeable Easier installation – higher performance C-Max disc anodes are generally used for ‘forward’ ICCP systems where their circular shape reduces the risk of physical damage and helps to maintain the flow dynamics at the bow of the vessel. Their low profile also avoids the problem of rubbing by anchor chains. The current emitting face of the C-Max disc anode is made from mixed metal oxide (MMO) on a titanium substrate. This is contained within a rubber over-moulding which creates a watertight seal with the hull and protects the edge of the anode....

A choice of control panels Thyristor Panels C-Shield thyristor control panels combine cost effectiveness with rugged reliability that has been proved on vessels of all sizes worldwide. They also incorporate the latest computerised information systems enabling the status of the ICCP system to be monitored by ships’ computers. Thyristor control panels can be used for systems of up to 1,000 amps with 8 anodes and 4 reference electrodes being controlled by an individual panel. They are ideal for the requirements of cruise ships, VLCCs and many types of container and cargo vessels. The popularity...

Shaft Earthing Even on ships fitted with ICCP or sacrificial anode systems, propeller shaft bearings are vulnerable to corrosion. This is because turning propeller shafts are electrically insulated from the hull by the lubricating oil film in the bearings and by the use of non-metallic bearing materials in the tail shaft. The problem can be eliminated if the shaft is earthed to the hull using a propeller shaft slipring. Cathelco supply complete shaft earthing assemblies consisting of a pair of high silver content/graphite compound brushes mounted in a balanced brush holder, running on a copper...

Large Thruster Tunnel ICCP Systems Anode 3 Stbd. Stern REF Electrode Bottom Anode 4 Bow and stern thruster protection is a specialised area where Cathelco have developed a system which is uniquely effective in providing corrosion protection. Problems of corrosion arise because of the dissimilarity of the materials used in the hull and thruster tunnel construction and remain unchecked because they are outside the scope of conventional ICCP systems. The Star Ismene is fitted with bow and stern thruster tunnel ICCP Systems Cathelco’s thruster tunnel systems are installed on ocean going vessels,...
