Because of magnetic interferences the magnetic compass binnacle has to be installed on the compass bridge in a suitable distance to any magnetic iron and other sources of magnetic fields. Usually the reading at the steering position will be done by a periscope free of power supply acc. to IMO . Lenses and mirrors inside are for magnification of the reading. This methode is expensive and technical difficulties limit the distance to a certain value. Where the national regulations allow electronic means of transmission CAMcourse can be employed. A camera installed below the compass inside the binnacle reads the heading and transfers it electronically by cable to a monitor suitably installed at the steering position. The camera is easy to fix within each Cassens & Plath binnacle column. A variant can be used for overhead compasses. Function switch and brightness control are at the monitor. In case of main supply voltage failure CAMcourse automatically switch over to emergency supply. CAMcourse can replace the reflection tube of magnetic compass binnacles and fullfills IEC 60945 regulations. Die Ablesung am Steuerstand im Ruderhaus erfolgt gemäß IMO stromlos mit dem Reflexionsrohr. Hierin montierte Linsen und Spiegel vergrößern das Rosenbild entsprechend. Diese Technik ist anspruchsvoll und stößt bei größerer Übertragungslänge an Grenzen. Wo die nationalen Vorschriften auch den Einsatz elektronischer Übertragungsmittel erlauben, kann CAMcourse eingesetzt werden. Eine Kamera am Kompass im Kompass-Stand liest den Kurs ab und überträgt ihn auf einen Monitor, der an geeigneter Stelle am Ruderstand montiert werden kann. Die Kamera lässt sich leicht in jedem Cassens & Plath Kompass-Stand montieren. Eine modifizierte KameraAblesung kann auch an Deckenkompassen verwendet werden. Am Monitor kann CAMcourse ein-/ausgeschaltet und die Bildhelligkeit justiert werden. Bei Ausfall der Hauptspannung wird die Versorgung automatisch auf das Notnetz umgeschaltet. Das Gerät ist als Fernablesung für Magnetkompass-Stände anstelle des Reflexionsrohres und entspricht IEC 60945.
