Product catalog summary
Product Description: The bCore D200 is a structural core designed for composite applications, composed of Balsa Plywood and flax fiber reinforcement. This combination enhances mechanical properties, particularly shear properties in the length direction, and improves fatigue properties for long-term shear stability. The balsa plywood provides high compression strength and stiffness with good bending properties.
Specifications: The core construction includes FSC certified BANOVA® balsa plywood and Bcomp amplitex #5008 flax reinforcement, consisting of 60% fibers and 40% resin. Standard widths are available in sizes M (120mm), L (140mm), and XL (160mm), with custom widths on request. Thickness ranges from 2-300mm, and the maximum length is 2420mm. Flax reinforcement numbers vary by size: 4 for M, and 5 for L and XL.
Mechanical Properties: The core has a density of 200 kg/m3, a compression modulus of 1550 MPa, and a compression strength of 6 MPa. The shear modulus is 350 MPa, shear strength is 4.3 MPa, and flexural modulus is 2160 MPa. The x direction is parallel to ribs, y is the width direction, and z is the out-of-plane direction.
Machining Guidelines: D200 cores can be machined using high-speed woodworking machines, with optimal shaping achieved using belt sanding machines. Climb milling is preferred for contour milling. Care should be taken with CNC milling due to the transition between flax reinforcements and softer wood. Post-machining, dust should be removed with vacuum cleaning. The fibrous surfaces of flax reinforcements enhance core-to-skin bonding.
Processing Guidelines: The D200 core is compatible with various manufacturing methods, including contact molding, vacuum infusion, resin infusion/injection, adhesive bonding, pre-preg processing, and compression molding. It is compatible with most standard resins and can withstand processing temperatures up to 150°C and pressures up to 15 bars. Balsa may absorb resin, so resin usage should be controlled to 100-150 g/m2 for core-to-skin bonding.

Technical Data Sheet bCore D200 1. Product description Bcore D200 is a structural core suitable for composite applications. The core is made of Balsa Plywood and of flax fiber reinforcement to significantly improve mechanical properties, especially shear properties in length direction. Also the fatigue properties are greatly improved by the flax reinforcements, ensuring constant long term shear properties. The balsa plywood ensures an exceptionally high compression strength and stiffness with good bending properties of the core. 2. Specifications Core construction Wood type: FSC certified BANOVA® balsa plywood Reinforcing flax: Bcomp amplitex #5008, 60% fibers, 40% resin Dimensions Standard width: Size M: 120mm, Size L: 140mm, Size XL: 160mm. Other width on request. Thickness: 2-300mm, net-shape profile available on request Maximum length: 2420mm Number of flax reinforcement: Size M: 4, Size L and XL: 5
