bCores® QX summer

bCores® QX summer

Product catalog summary
Core Construction
The bCores® QX summer core is constructed from FSC certified BANOVA® balsa plywood. It is available in two dimensions: 1530 x 15 x 450 mm and 1530 x 15 x 300 mm, with a density of 210 kg/m³. The quadri-axial orientation of the balsa plywood enhances mechanical properties, particularly shear properties in the length direction, providing high compression strength and stiffness with good bending properties.
Machining Guidelines
The QX cores can be processed using high-speed woodworking machines. Optimal shaping results are achieved with belt sanding machines, and climb milling is preferred for contour milling. Post-machining, cutting dust should be removed using vacuum cleaning equipment.
Mechanical Properties
The core exhibits the following mechanical properties: Compression modulus z of 1400 MPa, compression strength z of 5 MPa, shear modulus xz of 300 MPa, shear strength xz of 3.8 MPa, and flexural modulus x of 2200 MPa. The actual density of the core in its final shape ranges between 200-205 kg/m³ due to machining.
Processing Guidelines
QX cores are compatible with various manufacturing methods, including contact molding, vacuum infusion, and compression molding. They can withstand processing temperatures up to 150°C and pressures up to 15 bars. Resin uptake by balsa should be controlled to minimize weight, with typical resin usage for core-to-skin bonding being 100 - 150 g/m².
Ecological Aspects
Balsa is the fastest-growing tree globally and is FSC-certified, ensuring compliance with environmental and social criteria. It has a 40% lower environmental impact compared to paulownia wood, considering water usage, CO2 footprint, and embodied energy.

bCores® QX summer-1

Product Data Sheet bCores QX summer bCoresQX summer Product description bCores QX summer is a structural core suitable for composite applications. The core is made of balsa plywood orientated in 4 different directions (quadri-axial), which significantly improves mechanical properties, especially shear properties in length direction. The balsa plywood ensures an exceptionally high compression strength and stiffness with good bending properties of the core. Core construction Wood type: FSC certified BANOVA balsa plywood Dimensions L: 1530 x 15 x 450 mm M: 1530 x 15 x 300 mm Density of 210 kg/m3 Machining guidelines • QX cores can be processed with high-speed wood working machine. • Best results for shaping QX cores are obtained with belt sanding machine. • For contour milling, climb milling has to be preferred to conventional milling. • After machining, cutting dust has to be carefully removed with vacuum cleaning equipment. Mechanical mean properties on the core width x direction is length direction parallel to ribs y direction is width direction z direction is out of plane direction * All these values are average values for the complete core. As the high-density balsa is mainly on the sides, it is mostly removed in the center of the ski when the sidecut is machined. Thus the actual density of the core in final shape will be in the range between 200-205 kg/m3.
