ampliTex® 5051

Product catalog summary
Fabric Construction
The ampliTex® 5051 is a flax fibre braid with a nominal diameter of 43 mm and a maximal internal diameter of 58 mm when stretched. It has a linear weight of 33.6 g/m and a wall areal weight of 250 gsm. The standard roll length is 100 meters.
Product Description
This flax fibre braid is designed for manufacturing high-performance, environmentally friendly composite tubes. It can replace a 50.8 g/m glass fiber braid, offering a sustainable alternative.
Technical Specifications
The tensile modulus parallel to fibres is 61 GPa for dry fibres and 34.6 GPa for composites. The flexural modulus parallel to fibres is 57 GPa for dry fibres and 32.6 GPa for composites. The density is 1350 kg/m3. Composite properties are measured with 54% fiber volume using Epoxy resin Araldite LY 8615/ XB 5173.
Ecological Aspects
Flax is sourced from France and Belgium, contributing to a negative global warming indicator due to CO2 sequestration. Compared to glass fibres, ampliTex flax has lower human toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, and non-renewable energy consumption.
Processing Guidelines
The braid is compatible with epoxy and polyester resins and various processing methods such as vacuum infusion and compression moulding. It is important to dry the fabric before use if moisture-sensitive resins are used. A fibre weight fraction of 50% can be achieved with process pressure over 5 bars, and it is recommended to control resin usage to avoid a dry appearance.

Product Data Sheet ampliTex 5051 flax braid 50 mm Ø ® Ecological aspects Processing guidelines Grown in France and Belgium, flax used at Bcomp is a regional resource. Great compatibility with epoxy and polyester Near zero CTE, hence good processing compatibility with carbon fibres Compatible with infusion based processes (vacuum infusion, RTM), wet layup, bladder inflation moulding (BIM) and compression moulding Production of flax has a negative global warming indicator because of CO2 sequestration by photosynthesis. Flax fibres always contain some humidity at ambient conditions. Some resins...
