ampliTex® 5040

ampliTex® 5040

Product catalog summary
Fabric Construction
The ampliTex® 5040 is a bidirectional fabric made from flax fibers sourced from the EU. It features a balanced twill 2/2 weave with fibers oriented at 0° and 90°. The yarn tex is 300 TEX, and the fabric weight is 300 gsm with a tolerance of +/- 5%. The standard width is 1000 mm, and the roll length is 50 m.
Product Description
This fabric is designed for manufacturing high-performance, environmentally friendly fiber-reinforced composite products. It offers excellent drapability, making it suitable for complex shapes, and provides high laminate stiffness due to its low crimp weave and zero-twist yarns.
Performance Advantage
The flax ampliTex® 0°/90° 300 gsm fabric can replace a 495 gsm glass fiber fabric for equivalent tensile stiffness and a 410 gsm glass fiber fabric for equivalent compressive stiffness. It can also substitute a 600 gsm carbon fiber layer when combined with powerRibs fabrics 5019 and 5020 for similar bending performance.
Technical Specifications
The fabric has a flexural modulus of 32.4 GPa parallel to fibers and 18.1 GPa in composite form. The tensile strength parallel to fibers is 224 MPa, with a yield strength of 122 MPa. The density is 1350 kg/m3.
Processing Guidelines
The fabric is compatible with epoxy and polyester resins and various processing methods, including vacuum infusion and compression molding. It is recommended to dry the fabric at 110°C for 15 minutes to remove moisture before use, especially with moisture-sensitive resins. A fiber weight fraction of 50% can be achieved with process pressure over 5 bars.
Ecological Aspects
Flax used in ampliTex® is grown in France and Belgium, contributing to a negative global warming indicator due to CO2 sequestration. The fabric has lower human toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, and non-renewable energy consumption compared to glass fibers.

ampliTex® 5040-1

Preliminary Product Da ta Shee t, V1 ampliTex Art. No. 5040 ampliTex Art. No. 5040 flax balanced weave (0°/90°) 300 gsm Product description Bidirectional fabric with fibers oriented at 0° and 90°, suitable for manufacturing fiber reinforced composite products with a high performance and a low environmental impact. ampliTex® 5040 has a very good drapability and is ideal for complex shapes. High laminate stiffness is obtained due to the low crimp twill 2/2 weave as well as zero-twist yarns. Fabric construction Fibre type: Flax (EU) Construction: 0°/90°, balanced twill 2/2 weave Yarn tex: 300 TEX Fabric weight : 300 gsm +/- 5% 150 gsm in each direction Measurements Standard width: 1000 mm Standard roll length: 50 m Performance advantage Considering that glass fibers have a density of 2600 kg/m3 and a tensile modulus of 70 GPa, the flax ampliTex® 0°/90° 300 gsm can replace a 495 gsm glass fiber 0°/90° fabric to have the same stiffness in tension. In compression, the performance of flax is a bit lower, thus the flax ampliTex 0°/90° 300 gsm can replace a 410 gsm glass fiber 0°/90° fabric to have the same stiffness. This fabric is ideal to be combined with the powerRibs fabrics 5019 and 5020, replacing a 600 gsm carbon fiber layer with same performances in bending. * Properties measured on samples with 6 layers aligned at 0°, manufactured in a press with 6 bars pressure (53% fiber weight, 48% fiber volume fraction), with prepreg resin VTC401.

ampliTex® 5040-2

Preliminary Product Data Sheet, V1 ® ampliTex Art. No. 5040 Ecological aspects Grown in France and Belgium, flax used at Bcomp is a regional resource. Production of flax has a negative global warming indicator because of the CO2 sequestration by photosynthesis. Processing guidelines • Great compatibility with epoxy and polyester • Near zero CTE, hence good processing compatibility with carbon fibres • Compatible with infusion based processes (vacuum infusion, RTM), wet layup, bladder inflation moulding (BIM) and compression moulding • Flax fibres always contain some humidity at ambient conditions....
