Product catalog summary
Fabric Construction
The ampliTex® Art. No. 5039 is a non-crimp unidirectional fabric made from white flax fibers sourced from the EU. It features a 0° construction with a yarn tex of 200 TEX and a fabric weight of 120 gsm ± 5%. The standard width is 750 mm, and the roll length is 50 m. The weft thread is made of textured polyester at 6 g/cm.
Product Description
This fabric is designed for manufacturing high-performance, low environmental impact fiber-reinforced composite products. After impregnation, the fabric appears cream white, reducing heat absorption when exposed to sunlight.
Performance Advantage
The flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 195 gsm glass fiber UD fabric for equivalent tensile stiffness and a 160 gsm glass fiber UD fabric for equivalent compressive stiffness.
Technical Specifications
The tensile modulus parallel to fibers is 60 GPa for dry fibers and 29 GPa for composites. The flexural modulus parallel to fibers is 54 GPa for dry fibers and 26.1 GPa for composites. The density is 1350 kg/m3. Properties are measured on specimens with 13 layers aligned at 0°, pressed at 5 bars, with 50% fiber weight and 46% Vf, using Epoxy resin Huntsman LY5052 / Aradur 5052, cured at 80°C.
Processing Guidelines
The fabric is compatible with epoxy and polyester resins and various molding processes. Flax fibers contain humidity, which can affect resin polymerization. It is recommended to dry the fabric at 110°C for 15 minutes before use. A fiber weight fraction of 50% can be achieved with process pressure over 5 bars.
Ecological Aspects
Flax used in ampliTex® is grown in France and Belgium, contributing to a negative global warming indicator due to CO2 sequestration. Compared to glass fibers, ampliTex® flax has lower human toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, and non-renewable energy consumption.

ampliTex® 5039-1

ampliTex® Art. No. 5039 white low twist flax / unidirectional fabric 120 gsm Fabric construction Fibre type: White Flax (EU) Construction: 0° Yarn tex: 200 TEX Fabric weight : 120 gsm +/- 5% Weft thread: textured polyester, 6 g/cm Measurements Standard width: 750 mm Standard roll length: 50 m Product Data Sheet ampliTex® Art. No. 5039 Product description Non-crimp unidirectional fabric with fibres oriented at 0°, suitable for manufacturing fibre reinforced composite products with a high performance and a low environmental impact. The color after impregnation is "cream white", which avoids too much heating when exposed to the sun. Performance advantage Considering that glass fibers have a density of 2600 kg/m3 and a tensile modulus of 70 GPa, the flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 195 gsm glass fiber UD fabric to have the same stiffness in tension. In compression, the performance of flax is a bit lower, thus the flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 160 gsm glass fiber UD fabric to have the same stiffness. * Properties are measured on specimens with 13 layers aligned at 0°, pressed at 5 bars (50% fiber weight, 46% Vf), with Epoxy resin Huntsman LY5052 / Aradur 5052, cured at 80°C. Fibers dried 15min at 110°C prior processing.

ampliTex® 5039-2

Grown in France and Belgium, flax used at Bcomp is a regional resource. Production of flax has a negative global warming indicator because of the CO2 sequestration by photosynthesis. ■ Human toxicity 9.1 0.2 ampliTex Glass fibres flax ■ Greenhouse gas emissions Processing guidelines • Well compatible with epoxy and polyester • Near-zero CTE, hence good processing compatibility with carbon fibres • Compatible with infusion-based processes (vacuum infusion, RTM), wet layup, bladder inflation moulding (BIM) and compression moulding • Flax fibers always contain some humidity at ambient conditions....
