ampliTex® 5032

Product catalog summary
Fabric Construction
The ampliTex® Art. No. 5032 is a non-crimp unidirectional fabric made from flax fibers sourced from the EU. It features a yarn tex of 200 TEX and a fabric weight of 120 gsm. The standard width is 1270 mm, and the roll length is 50 m. This fabric is designed for high-performance, environmentally friendly composite products.
Performance Advantage
The flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 195 gsm glass fiber UD fabric for equivalent tensile stiffness. In compression, it can substitute a 160 gsm glass fiber UD fabric. The flax fabric offers a lower density compared to glass fibers, contributing to its performance benefits.
Technical Specifications
The tensile modulus parallel to fibers is 59.6 GPa for dry fibers and 29 GPa for composites. The flexural modulus parallel to fibers is 54.5 GPa for dry fibers and 26.1 GPa for composites. The density of the dry fibers is 1350 kg/cm3. These properties are measured on specimens with 13 layers aligned at 0°, using specific epoxy resin and curing conditions.
Ecological Aspects
Flax used in ampliTex® is grown in France and Belgium, contributing to a negative global warming indicator due to CO2 sequestration. Compared to glass fibers, flax has lower human toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, and non-renewable energy consumption.
Processing Guidelines
The fabric is compatible with epoxy and polyester resins and various molding processes. It has near-zero CTE, making it compatible with carbon fibers. Flax fibers should be dried before use to prevent moisture-related issues. A fiber weight fraction of 50% can be achieved with process pressure over 5 bars, and resin usage should be controlled to avoid a dry appearance.

ampliTex® Art. No. 5032 light UD natural colour flax fabric 120 gsm Product Data Sheet ampliTex® Art. No. 5032 Product description Non-crimp unidirectional fabric with fibres oriented at 0°, suitable for manufacturing fibre reinforced composite products with a high performance and a low environmental impact. Fabric construction Fibre type: Flax (EU) Construction: 0° Yarn tex: 200 TEX Fabric weight: 120 gsm Measurements Standard width: 1270 mm Standard roll length: 50 m Performance advantage Considering that glass fibers have a density of 2.6 kg/dm3 and a tensile modulus of 70 GPa, the flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 195 gsm glass fiber UD fabric to have the same stiffness in tension. In compression, the performance of flax is a bit lower, thus the flax ampliTex® UD 120 gsm can replace a 160 gsm glass fiber UD fabric to have the same stiffness. * Properties are measured on specimens with 13 layers aligned at 0°, pressed at 5 bars (50% fiber weight, 46% Vf), with Epoxy resin Huntsman LY5052 / Aradur 5052, cured at 80°C. Fibers dried 15min at 110C° prior processing.

Product Data Sheet ® ampliTex Art. No. 5032 Ecological aspects Processing guidelines Grown in France and Belgium, flax used at Bcomp is a regional resource. Near zero CTE, hence good processing compatibility with carbon fibres Compatible with infusion based processes (vacuum infusion, RTM), wet layup, bladder inflation moulding (BIM) and compression moulding Flax fibres always contain some humidity at ambient conditions. Some resins (especially polyesters) are sensitive to moisture and may badly polymerize or create bubbles. In that case, dry the fabrics before use (110°C for 15 minutes) Fibre...
