Product catalog summary
Fabric Construction
The ampliTex® Art. No. 5027-4 is a UD tape made from a fusion of flax and carbon fibers, with a composition of 51% flax and 49% carbon. It features a yarn tex of 200 TEX and a surface weight of 170 gsm. The weft yarn is made from textured polyester.
Dimensions
The standard width of the tape is 120 mm, and it comes in rolls of 50 meters.
Technical Specifications
The composite material has a flexural modulus of 66.6 GPa, a strength of 730 MPa, and a yield strength of 642 MPa, with a density of 1340 kg/m3. These measurements are based on specimens made by vacuum infusion using 7 layers of fabric and resin 5052 from Huntsman, with a fiber volume fraction of 50%.
Product Description
The ampliTex flax-carbon fusion UD tape combines the high stiffness of carbon with the lightweight and damping properties of flax. Both fibers have similar thermal expansion coefficients and failure strains, enhancing their compatibility.
Processing Guidelines
The tape is compatible with epoxy and polyester resins and various processing methods, including vacuum infusion, RTM, wet layup, bladder inflation molding, and compression molding. Flax fibers contain some humidity, which can affect resin polymerization. It is recommended to dry the fabrics at 110°C for 15 minutes before use. A fiber weight fraction of 50% can be achieved with process pressure over 5 bars, and it is advised to control the amount of adhesive and resin used.
Ecological Aspects
Flax used in the product is grown in France and Belgium, contributing to a negative global warming indicator due to CO2 sequestration by photosynthesis. The product has lower human toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions, and non-renewable energy consumption compared to glass fibers.

Product Data Sheet ampliTex® Art. No. 5027-4 Product description ampliTex flax-carbon fusion UD tape, non-crimp, 120 mm width, 170 gsm Fabric construction Fibre type: Flax (EU) / Carbon Construction: UD tape 0° Yarn tex: 200 TEX Surface weight: 170 gsm Weft yarn: Textured polyester Dimensions Standard width: 120 mm Standard roll length: 50 m Performance advantage The fusion tape brings the best of two worlds: the very high stiffness of carbon and the light weight and damping of flax. Both fibres also have a very good compatibility, since they have similar thermal expansion coefficient and failure strain. *Measured on specimens made by vacuum infusion, 7 layers of fabric, resin 5052 from Huntsman, 50%Vf

Great compatibility with epoxy and polyester Compatible with infusion based processes (vacuum infusion, RTM), wet layup, bladder inflation moulding (BIM) and compression moulding Flax fibres always contain some humidity at ambient conditions. Some resins (especially polyesters) are sensitive to moisture and may badly polymerize or create bubbles. In that case, dry the fabrics before use (110°C for 15 minutes) Production of flax has a negative...
