65' EXPEDITION FOUR - 1

MARINE The Next Generation in Catamaran Design The 'Expeditions four' operates a ferry service across the Auau Channel between the islands of Maui and Lana'i, Hawaii The 'EXPEDITIONS four' is a 65' x 23.5' Teknicraft catamaran owned and operated by Maui based Expeditions. The vessel is used as an inter- island 149-passenger ferry across the Auau channel between the islands of Maui and Lana'i. With the Teknicraft design, said Steve Knight, President & CEO of Expeditions, "We've got increased passenger capacity, fantastic fuel savings, and a better speed range." The foil assisted 'EXPEDITIONS four' burns about half the amount of fuel per hour as their old monohull. "We can actually put 50% more people on the boat than we could with our present vessel, and can maintain a consistent cruising speed in a wide range of sea states." Steve Knight added, "The fuel savings alone will almost pay the monthly boat mortgage twice over!" The 'EXPEDITIONS four' is powered by a pair of Detroit Series 60 engines, each delivering 740hp at 2300rpms and drawing from the two 460 gallon diesel fuel tanks. Propulsion is by 3" AQ22 shafts and 36" X 39" 5 blade propellers driven by Twin Disc MGX5114-A Quickshift gears with a 2.5:1 ratio, for a maximum speed of 28 knots (lightship). "We were happy with All American right from the beginning," said Knight, who visited the Bellingham, Washington-based shipyard at least monthly to offer his input on the custom work. "We were able to achieve a boat that is exactly what we wanted."
