Oil cleaning - MMB and MAB/MMB

Product catalog summary
Application
The document discusses the purification or clarification of mineral oils used in marine installations and power stations. It covers distillates, marine diesel oils (MDO) up to 13 cSt at 40°C, lubricating oils for trunk diesel engines, steam and gas turbines, and hydraulic oils for hydroelectric power stations.
Concept
The MMB series of solids-retaining separators includes two models: MMB 304 and MMB 305. Each system comprises an MMB separator and ancillary equipment like connections and valve assembly. Optional equipment includes an independent oil feed pump, oil heating system, and a water seal alarm (MAWA-40).
Features and Benefits
The system features a compact, robust design with an internal paring disc for clean oil discharge and a large sludge space. Benefits include easy installation, pressurized discharge of clean oil, fewer service manhours due to extended operating periods, and lower maintenance costs.
System Working Principle
Separation occurs in a solids-retaining bowl, where contaminated oil is fed into the separator and separated by centrifugal force. Sludge is deposited at the bowl's periphery and removed manually. Clean oil is discharged continuously, and water exits via an open outlet. The system can operate in purifier or clarifier mode, with optional equipment like the MAWA-40 water seal alarm for monitoring.
Installation
The MMB separation system is designed for complete system installation, including a schematic layout for typical installations. It includes essential ancillary equipment like a water seal alarm, starter, heater, valves, and piping.
Standard Design
The MMB 304/305 series are solids-retaining separators with different throughput capacities. Each model includes a frame, power transmission, and bowl assembly. The frame houses the power transmission unit, and the bowl is fixed on the spindle inside the frame hood.
Basic and Additional Equipment
Basic equipment includes the MMB separator, sealing water inlet, gravity discs, sludge basket, and hoses. Additional equipment required includes an electric motor, oil feed pump, and tools. Optional equipment includes a water seal alarm unit, pressure switch kit, and preheater.
Technical Data
Technical specifications include input voltage supply options and power consumption for each model. Shipping data provides dimensions and weight for the MMB 304 and MMB 305 models.
After Sales Support
Alfa Laval offers a Preventive Maintenance Program and service engineers for maintenance and repair. Genuine spare parts reduce downtime and repair costs, with service kits available for routine and major maintenance.
Throughput Capacities
The document provides a range of throughput capacities for different models, with detailed information available on separate data sheets.

Oil cleaning - MMB and MAB/MMB-1

MMB Solids-retaining centrifugal separators Application Purification or clarification (optional) of mineral oils used in marine installations and power stations: • Distillates • Marine Diesel Oils MDO up to 13 cSt at 40°C • Lubricating oils for trunk diesel engines operating on distillates and light MDO • Lubricating oils for steam and gas turbines • Lubricating and hydraulic oils for hydroelectric power stations Concept The MMB series of solids-retaining separators is available in two models, the MMB 304 and MMB 305. Each MMB separation system comprises: • An MMB separator • Ancillary equipment consisting of connections and valve assembly MMB 305 solids-retaining separator. Optional equipment • Independent oil feed pump • Oil heating system, steam or electric • Water seal alarm MAWA-40 Features and benefits The unique features of the system are: • Compact, robust design • Internal paring disc for discharge of clean oil • Large sludge space • Belt-driven The major benefits are: • Easy to install. Requires limited space. • Pressurised discharge of clean oil. No need for downstream pump. • Fewer service manhours. Larger sludge space extends operating period between manual cleaning. • Lower maintenance and spare parts costs. Water seal alarm MAWA-40.

Oil cleaning - MMB and MAB/MMB-2

System working principle Separation takes place in a solidsretaining, also known as a solid-wall, bowl that can be arranged for purification or clarification (optional). In both cases the contaminated oil is fed to the separator by a feed pump through the oil inlet and is separated by centrifugal force into its various phases. The heaviest phase, sludge, is forced to and deposited at the periphery of the bowl. Separated sludge is collected in the space at the periphery of the bowl and removed periodically by hand using the stainless steel sludge basket. The clean oil is continuously discharged...
