Soundac PVP - 1

Soundac® PVP Laminated metal sheets Description Soundac® PVP is a sandwich metal sheet, designed to reduce vibrations and noise transmission in metal ® constructions. Soundac PVP consists of two metal sheets with a thin viscoelastic inner layer. The material operates on the constrained layer damping principle. When a sheet or structure made of Soundac® PVP is caused to vibrate the shear forces in the constrained viscoelastic layer cause the vibration energy to be converted into heat. Type Material Soundac® PVP Soundac® PVP Soundac® PVP Steel Stainless steel Aluminium Thickness 1.1 tot 6.2 mm 1.1 tot 6.2 mm 1.1 tot 6.2 mm Loss factor Metal constructions normally have a very low loss factor (ability to convert vibration energy into heat) typically in the range of 0.001 – 0.01. The loss factor can be increased to 0.3 – 0.8 when using Soundac® PVP. This in turn means that the ampli-tude of resonant vibrations occurring in the construction when it is subjected to structure born sound, will be much lower than for a standard metal construction. Temperature The performance of all viscoelastic damping materials is more or less sensitive to temperature. While most constructions are subjected to ambient temperatures of 15-20oC, those parts in close proximity to engines, radiators, heaters or exhaust pipes may operate at temperatures up to 100oC. The range of Soundac® PVP can be supplied to give maximum damping at 20oC, o o 60 C en 80 C. This amplitude reduction normally leads to less radiation of sound and to less risk of fatigue failure. The build-in damping of a Soundac® PVP Construction will also reduce the need for extra add-on damping materials. Soundac PVP - 2

Converting Loss factor metal sheet Soundac® PVP can be cut and holes can be drilled as in a homogenous sheet. When bending the radius shall be kept min. 1.5 – 2 times the sheet thickness. The Soundac® PVP sheet will act as lose sheets and displace depending on the difference in bending radius between the inner and outer sheet. The degree of displacement will therefore determinate of the sheet thickness, bending angle and distance from the edge. Temperature dependency at 200 Hz 0,6 Loss factor The Soundac® PVP sheets are usually joined together by means of pop rivets or screws. Spot welding...
