CMYK CMYK ACO Marine Data Sheet ACO Clarimar® Sewage Treatment Plants IMO has adopted RESOLUTION MEPC 159(55) with revised guidelines for effluent standards and performance test procedures for sewage treatment plants. This new resolution will apply to all sewage treatment plants installed on existing ships on or after 1 January 2010 and on new ships whose keels are laid on or after this date. Vessels of 400 GRT and above and ships of less than 400 GRT which are certified to carry more than 15 persons are required to comply with effect from that date. The ACO Clarimar® range of sewage treatment plants are fully certified to the IMO MEPC 159(55) standards. ACO Clarimar® – extended aeration and settling system Using the activated sludge principle, ACO Clarimar® effectively accelerates the natural biological processes. Final stage chlorination followed by discharge de-chlorination produce a clean, safe, effluent suitable for discharge overboard. Type Approved to IMO MEPC 159(55) and MED Module B Compatible with both gravity and vacuum collection systems Automated liquid chemical disinfection and de-chlorination produce an effluent suitable for discharge at sea Manufactured entirely in the EU entirely from high performance composite materials which, unlike coated black steel, are completely corrosion resistant and light weight Modular design concept for simple installation requiring only one power connection, even when a direct mounted vacuum collection system is used Simple automated operation requires minimal operator intervention and maintenance Process Description Sewage first enters into the first stage aeration compartment where it is thoroughly mixed and aerated by fine bubble aeration membrane elements. Mounted blower(s) (an optional standby unit is available) provide air to the membrane aeration elements whose innovative design allows quick and easy removal for cleaning. Aerobic bacteria and micro organisms naturally present within the waste material break down the organic matter into mostly carbon dioxide, water and inert, non organic material. Throughout the process the bacteria cells continue to re-produce new organisms to sustain the biological process. The mixed liquor from the aeration compartment is displaced by incoming sewage water into the settling stage of the process whose sloped hopper design creates the ideal conditions for efficient settling of the activated sludge to the bottom of compartment from where it is transferred via an airlift back to the aeration chamber to be re-mixed with the incoming sewage water. Clear supernatant liquid from the settling process overflows into the final chlorination compartment where chlorine is added via an automated dosing system thereby killing any remaining bacteria in the effluent. Discharge from the compartment is controlled using a level control system connected to the effluent discharge pump. De-chlorination manifold is automatically injected into the inlet of the effluent pump to ensure effective mixing with the discharge water and neutralisation of any residual chlorine. Optional to the chlorine desinfection, UV - lamp can be installed.

Clarimar technical description The main tank is fabricated from a unique fire retardent composite material which unlike internally coated black steel is com- pletely resistant to corrosion, abrasion and chemical attack. The material can then be painted externally to any customer specified colour and finish quality. The tank is available as a complete welded construction or as a bolt together 'flat-pack' arrangement for retrofit in ship upgrade, replacement or conversion installations. All components are modularly mounted on the tanks structure providing a complete 'plug and play'...
