3M™ Marine Adhesive Sealant 520

Product catalog summary
Product Description: 3M™ Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 is a moisture-reactive, one-part polyurethane that forms strong, flexible bonds. It is suitable for wood, gelcoat, and fiberglass, providing a watertight seal for both above and below waterline applications.
Product Features: This sealant is a tough, flexible polyurethane polymer with a long working time. It bonds dissimilar materials, is non-shrinking, and adheres to various substrates.
Technical Information: The sealant has a density of 11.3 lb/gal and a non-sag paste consistency. It becomes tack-free in 4 hours at 73°F and 90% RH, with a Shore A Hardness of 68. Its tensile strength is 4.8 MPa, curing at 3 mm per 5 days at room temperature.
Performance Characteristics: The sealant shows strong cohesive failure before adhesive failure on various substrates, with overlap shear strengths from 7.5 kg/cm² to 49 kg/cm².
Handling/Application Information: Surfaces must be clean before application. Apply with a caulk gun and remove excess with a suitable solvent. Not recommended for use above 190°F or below 40°F, and should be used within 24 hours of opening.
Applications: Ideal for permanent assembly of wood and fiberglass parts, including sealing fiberglass decks, wood to fiberglass, portholes, and deck fittings. Not recommended for certain plastics or as a teak deck seam sealer.
Limitations: Avoid using alcohol for surface preparation as it affects curing. Not recommended for use with glass or certain plastics without mechanical fastening.
Storage and Shelf Life: Store in original, unopened containers below 77°F for a shelf life of 24 months from manufacture date.
Safety and Precautions: Refer to the product label and Safety Data Sheet for health and safety information. Use in a well-ventilated area and comply with air quality regulations.
