The Importance of Servicing
When servicing, the service station will:
• open the container (or the valise),
• unfold and inflate the life raft,
• test the inflation system (firing head, tubes and valves),
• weigh the CC^ bottle,
• check the emergency equipment,
• re-pack the life raft and its equipment in a new waterproof vacuum protection pouch.
As the life raft gets older other tests are added:
• hydrostatic test of the gas bottle,
• replacement of equipment which is out of date or will be before the next service.
• If in accordance with your national regulation.
Servicing a life raft leaves no place for amateurs or improvised solutions. Servicing must be carried out at an authorized Zodiac service station by certified technicians who are regularly trained and follow strict factory procedures.
Fackaged in a valise or a container, the life rafts must undergo this inspection every three years from their date of sale (up to 15 years)*. This inspection is invaluable in order to ensure that your raft and its equipment are in good condition.
When you put your boat up for the winter, use this opportunity to take your life raft in for its inspection. It's a good idea to ask the service station to show you the raft as it is taken from the valise or canister for the inspection procedure. This way you can get to know your raft.
