MINTO ROWING MARINE DINGHY

T

he Minto is prized for its use as a dinghy, tender,or small sailing or rowing boat for boat. In the 1950s the “original” of the Minto was found washed up on the grounds of Our Lady Minto Hospital on Saltspring Island. The boat was estimated to have been built at the turn of the century and the builder is unknown. The elegant Whitehall ‘treatment’ given to this littleclassic makes it popular for adorning the transoms of elegant sailboat yachts where having a ‘class’ dinghy matters.

W

here the Minto really excels is how it handles, rowing exceptionally well with either one, two, or three adults on board. Due to generous freeboard, well positioned marine seats and oarlocks, this boat performs efficiently in a variety of wave conditions and is also renowned for stability when boarding. The full bow shape and tracking skeg allows for safe and easy towing. The Minto handles an outboard quite well because ofits reasonably flat aft bottom proportions.
