VOLVO PENTA AQUAMATIC 4.3/SX Up to 168 kW (225 hp) Smooth-running The 4.3GL/GXi is a V-6 gasoline engine with fi rst-class comfort characteristics. With a balance shaft located in the center of the engine, the design offers quiet and virtually vibration-free operation. Available either with carburetors (GL) or an advanced fuel injection system (GXi) the engine is a perfect match for the SX single-marine propeller drive. Power steering is fi tted as standard for maximum driving comfort. Engine > 4.3 liter gasoline en gine in a V-6 con fi g u- ra tion fea tur ing: seawater cooling with cast iron cy lin der boat block, cylinder heads and ex haust man i folds, which are specially de vel oped for the marine en vi ron ment. The exhaust manifolds and ris ers are EDP treated for in creased du ra bil i ty. The 4.3 also features a balance shaft lo cat ed in the center of the en gine. The design of fers quiet, virtually vi bra tion-free op er a tion by coun ter ing the pri ma ry im- bal ance of a stand ard V-6 cy lin der con-fi guration.
The advanced combustion system min i miz es noxious exhaust emissions and enhances overall enjoyment of boat ing. In addition, the seawater pump is lo-
cated on the front of the engine for easy accessibility. EVC/MC – Plug and go (option on GXi) > EVC Electronic Vessel Control is the lat-
est development in instrumentation for marine engines. It offers a higher level of integration with your boat: speed, tank level, depth and surface water temp as well as an optional trip computer inte-
grated into a uniform instrumentation. EVC makes boating easier offering new software options such as power trim assistant, a function that adjusts the power trim depend-
ing on engine rpm. EVC is scalable from a classic dashboard up to advanced driver information systems. The system is built on the latest automotive technology with waterproof connectors, so it’s just plug and go. Electrical system Fuel injection (GXi) > The electrical system features a 12 V corrosion-protected marine elec tri cal sys-tem which meets the U.S. Coast Guard requirements. The en gine is wired for easy plug-in connection to the in stru ment panel. The engine elec tri cal system and the electric hy drau lic power trim is protected by a 40 A circuit breaker and comes equipped with a 75 A al ter na tor. Full in stru men ta tion in clud ing trim gauge and wiring har ness (op tion on cer tain markets). The Multi Port Fuel Injection system is mon i tored by an Elet ro n ic Control Mod- ule (ECM) and gives the fol low ing ad van -tag es: more responsive and smooth er ac cel er a tion, excellent turn key starts in all weath er conditions, smooth re li a ble idling, reduced fuel con sump tion, and improved control of emis sions. Additional features built into the sys tem include: engine knock control for com-
pen sa tion of less than perfect gaso line, overspeed protection, rpm re duc tion of the engine for low oil pres sure, high engine tem pera ture, and low voltage, plati-num tipped spark plugs for longer life and trouble-free starts, al ti tude com pen sa tion for air density, and self-diagnostic capabili-
ties. Also, there are two fuel pumps for low and high pres sure respectively. Aquamatic sterndrive > The SX single propeller drive is of the most modern design featuring ex haust through the propeller hub and cavitation plate for qui et and ef fi cient operation, a cone clutch for easy and smooth shifting, pattern-
matched spiral bevel gears for op ti mum strength and minimum gear whine, and a break-away shaft cou pling to prevent costly drive train re pairs.
The hydrodynamic design of the low er drive housing ensures excellent course stability both at high speed and when ma-
neu ver ing at low speeds and in re verse. The drive is equipped with eas i ly maneu- vered hy drau lic pow er trim for ob tain ing the best run ning po si tion at dif fer ent sea and load con di tions. For maximum corrosion protection the drive has gone through a 23 step paint proc ess and comes equipped with sac ri -fi cial anodes both on the drive and tran-som shield. Either right- (standard) or left-hand ed pro pel lers can be used. A choice of stain- less steel and alu mi num pro pel lers are available for dif fer ent ap pli ca tions. The 4.3 features standard pow er steer- ing for maximum driv ing com fort.
