shaped lounge, an adjustable Stidd helm seat, plus port and starboard companion seating. The main helm features a destroyer type stain-
less-steel wheel and a second station on the bridge aft deck affords excellent visibility when docking or shing. Powder-coated aft rail-ing and ying bridge ladder, quartz lighting and a molded berglass seat also are included. The stand-up engineroom features Viking’s leading edge powder-coated web-frame structural-steel engine beds, which are mounted on dedicated transversals for vibration-free, engine and drive train alignment. Several engine choices are available from MTU and Cat-
erpillar and depending upon the power, load and sea conditions, the 68 Convertible will cruise 28 to 34 knots and have a top end ap-
proaching 39 knots. Standard fuel capacity is 2,060 gallons in Vi-
king-made berglass fuel tanks, which are nestled in the hull and -berglassed into place. The tanks mirror the hull bottom to maximize draw and range and in doing so also contribute to hull strength. If desired, fuel capacity can be increased to 2,360 gallons. On the 68 Convertible, the hull bottom is cored with end-grained balsa, which is vacuumed bagged to hand laid berglass laminates and then sandwiched between more berglass. Areas where there are through-hull penetrations, struts, shaft logs, water intakes and
bow thrusters, for example, are laid-up with several inches of solid berglass, which mate against the core material and are smoothly beveled for a seamless juncture. This time consuming process cre-
ates an incredibly strong structure, well suited to take on the rigorous life offshore and give you peace of mind, not only while you own the boat, but also at resale time.As with all Viking yachts, custom electronic packages and tuna tow-ers can be ordered and professionally installed by our sister compa-
