Rudder: A unique solution

The key driver behind the BARKE ® rudder is itsinnovative and sophisticated flap-type design, offering both an unsurpassed manoeuvring and course keeping performance as well as smooth operation and comfort.The flap linkage of the BARKE ® rudder is containedin a fully enclosed, grease-lubricated housing. This results in minimum wear on the linkage. The rudder stock is fully enclosed in a trunk and linkage housing. It is radially sealed to prevent seawater contact with therudder stock, thus protecting it from corrosion and bearingdamage. The progressive flap motion ensures minimal drag atcourse keeping and high maximum lift, thus superior manoeuvring performance. Optimal propulsion efficiency is achieved by a slim profile design and the best lift-drag ratio. Minimal clearance within the flap mechanism and flap bearings results in a noise and vibration free operation. In addition, all protruding parts are omitted so as to avoid turbulence and cavitation.
