Style 5250 Thank you for purchasing a Shakespeare antenna product. Customer comments are welcome. Before installing, please study the diagram and check parts supplied against those listed. IMPORTANT! Please read all instructions before installing. Supplied Parts 1 Antenna assembly 1 PL-259 connector with instruction sheet The Skinny Mini™ Style 5250 is an end-fed 1/2-wave, low profile antenna of 36” length. Its element is a sealed, tin-plated copper wire coil. It is designed primarily for vessels where space is limited, such as bass boats and center console fishing boats. Tools required: Drill, drill bit for ¼” mounting screws, screwdriver, sheet metal or wood screws. Installation Instructions Tech Tip: This antenna will read “open circuit” when tested with an ohm meter or continuity tester. Choose as high a mounting location as feasible, as free as possible from obstructions, and as far as possible from other antennas and strong sources of RF. The recommended mounting is by a Shakespeare Style 4187, 5187, 4188-S or 4190 Ratchet Mount (each sold separately). This antenna requires a mount with a center hole, for passage of the supplied RG-58 coax cable. The antenna requires no external or internal ground system, and works equally well on fiberglass, wood, or metal boats without additional insulation from the mounting surface. 1. Using the mount itself as a template, mark the location for mounting holes on the mounting surface. Drill pilot holes for ¼” fasteners. Be careful not to drill pilot holes too large. When drilling fiberglass, use metal-drilling bits, not wood-boring bits. Place a block of scrap wood behind the surface, if possible, to prevent fraying of the fiberglass as the bit passes through. 2. Install the mount onto the mounting surface using the appropriate fasteners (sold separately). 3. Attach the antenna to the mount, routing its cable through the slot or hole provided in the mount. Be careful not to twist or strain the cable when attaching the antenna to the mount. The included coax cable can be shortened as required, but it should remain at least 3 feet long, measured from the point where the cable attaches to the antenna. Any excess cable should be rolled in a coil of at least 8” diameter and stowed in an out-of-the-way place away from other electrical cabling. 4. Route the cable to your transceiver. Install the supplied PL-259 connector according to the instructions included with the connector, and connect the antenna to the transceiver. WARNING: IF THE CABLE IS NOT ALLOWED TO TURN FREELY DURING INSTALLATION, THE ANTENNA COULD BE DAMAGED!
