OCELOT LIGHT PROTECTED PATROL VEHICLE

The OCELOT LPPV was specifically designed to meet the UK MoD's LPPV programme requirements.

Under the banner OCELOT TEAM the vehicle has been jointly

developed by Ricardo and Force Protection Europe. Key features

such as speed, flexibility, maintenance and protection have been

the main development criteria and the STEYR MOTORS M16 TCI

engine decision came up as the obvious result for a compact and

dynamic power pack solution.

The vehicle is made for multi-purpose, because it can be used for

patrols or as protected logistics operations vehicles as well.

Force Protection Europe has been selected by UK MoD to

supply an initial order of OCELOT Light Protected Patrol Vehicles

(LPPV).

This program aims to have a production of 200+ light protected

patrol vehicles - ready for use next year.

Furthermore, the OCELOT was down selected as one of three

bidders for the Australian Land 121 program of a total volume of

1300 vehicles.

The reason for being down selected was a result of a high

functionality of the OCELOT, which is mainly supported by a

perfect powertrain consisting of a STEYR MOTORS 3.2I 160 kW

engine combined with a ZF-six speed automatic gearbox as well

as independent and lockable differential axles. The combination of

the STEYR MOTORS M16 (6 cylinder Monoblock turbocharged)

diesel engine coupled to the ZF 6-speed does not only influence

the excellent performance, but also saves 300 kg in comparison

to usually old fashioned powertrains. Therefore, this excellent

application engineering of high speed running, high power diesel

engine and a perfect fitting transmission gives significant advantage

to the mobility of the vehicle.

STEYR MOTORS achieved a pronounced time line of only four

months to build up 6 prototype engines with totally new designed

engine housings. Based on decades of experience with our

professional and well skilled suppliers, SMO was able to get the

first milled engine housing from a solid aluminium block within only

three weeks.

An upgrade of the M16 TCI to a 200kW SCI (Sequential Charged

Intercooled) engine with a 35-65kW ISG is currently in discussion.

Nick Gilley's racing boat is powered by two STEYR MOTORS MO306H43 engines

THE NICK GILLEY SUCCESS STORY

Dedicated to winning races - a race driver with innovation

There is one man in the UK, who loves boat racing more than most

others - Nick Gilley. In 2007 he decided to use STEYR MARINE

M0256 engines for a race boat that he had not yet built. He takes

part in Offshore Endurance racing which is the real Boating Race

Class where the whole package - including driver, throttle man,

boat and engines are used under the worst conditions.

The first race for the new boat and engine partnership was Round

Britain 2008 which started in Portsmouth and went clock-wise

back to Portsmouth - a most challenging 10 days which included

8 days of racing and 2 rest days - a real trial for the boatmen and

machine! In total, 47 boats took part in the race with 10 boats being

in the same class as Nick and his co-driver Jon. They finished 2nd

in their class which was a very remarkable result after 1,400 miles

of racing in this brand new construction with STEYR MOTORS

marine engines.

The final 2010 UIM Marathon World Cup result combining the

2 places gave Nick an incredible 4th place overall. Nick was

outperforming most boats of the higher classes, and the only

diesel-powered boat ahead him was powered by 4x 600 HP Race

Diesels. The pair of serial STEYR MOTORS MO306 engines has

shown an incredible performance and reliability and the overall 4th

place in competition against top famous race boats was finally an

unbelievable achievement. STEYR MOTORS is very proud to have

joined this success!
