By eliminating all cross miter seams we were able to decrease drag and increase performance. The continuous curve design allows the designer to change the shape of the tube gradually ^% throughout the tube length. With this ability and our experience SOTAR has fine-tuned this shape to optimize speed, quickness and load carying capacity. In fact the SOTAR Continuous Curve Cat has won the Clackamass Whitewater Festival expert cataraft division since its introduction in 1990. | | | | | | | | | | profile | | | | | | | | | | connnuous % CURVC | | | | | | topview | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Cats, by their nature, are guick and nimble; although they do have some performance quirks. Many times when trying to change ferry angles, both tubes catch the opposing current. This makes it very difficult to pivot to the proper angle. Another characteristic of cats is the annoying tendency to go airborne after entering a steep pushy hole. You have probably seen this happen. As the cat punches the hole, the down stream current catches the stern of the tubes and pushes them downward. The cat stands on it's tail, sinks slightly, then launches skyward in a spectacular move. This classic move is fun to watch but much less desirable to participate in. In the design of the SL cat we set out to solve these problems and substantially improve speed and maneuverability. First we changed the profile of the tubes and reduced the stern tube diameter to lessen the leverage the current can apply to the tube. Next we lengthened the water line and reduced the angle of attack. This increases hull speed and stability. We fattened the tube at pivot point to create a small footprint for incredibly fast turns. Finally we added an incredibly smooth bottom for resistance free rowing. The Elite cats are built with our exclusive Lexatron [polyurethane nylon] fabric and carry a IZ-year warranty. The Adventure cats are built with our exclusive Polytron [PVC nylon] fabric and carry a 5-year warranty. Each cat comes standard with 16-2" D-rings and U carry handles and end cone grommets. Each cat tube has I air chambers for a total of A per cataraft. In addition you can add custom D-rings, frame chafe, bottom wrap, custom color combinations, and custom graphics.
