Russell Coutts nato a Wellington Nuova Zelanda ed laureato in ingegneria. Con la vittoria nella 31ma Coppa America al timone di Alinghi ha conquistato il trofeo per la terza volta, dopo i successi del 1995 e del 2000. In Coppa America Coutts ha ottenuto 14 vittorie e zero sconfi tte, meglio di quanto seppe fare Dennis Conner: il primato non per di vittorie consecutive perch nella regata conclusiva contro Luna Rossa nel 2000 lasci il timone a Dean Barker. Considerata anche la Louis Vuitton Cup vinta nel 1995 ha vinto 77 match race e ne ha persi solo cinque.
Da velista ha vinto anche molto altro: loro olimpico nel 1984 nella classe Finn, due Mondiali di match race nel 1992 e nel 1993, e ha il record di 22 mesi al primo posto nel ranking mondiale.

Russell Coutts Russell Coutts was born in Wellington, New Zealand and graduated in engineering. With victory in the 31st Americas Cup at the helm of Alinghi he won the trophy for the third time, following his previous successes in 1995 and 2000. In the Americas Cup, Coutts has scored 14 victories Slam works with the worlds top sailors to develop its technical products. Russell Coutts and his team test the performance of SLAMs clothing ranges in person and provide feedback on their performance with the aim of achieving the highest quality levels possible.My relationship with SLAM began because this Italian Company is heavily focused on the development of high tech garments, and this is something which really interests me also. It is extremely important that clothing for the
sailing sector should be able to satisfy our needs in ever changing conditions and situations. We have an ongoing product test process so that we can develop the best product possible. In our world, technical performance is of the utmost importance: we need clothing which is comfortable and warm but which, at the same time, cannot be too heavy so that it restricts movement onboard ship.
Attention to detail is fundamental; fabrics must be temperature regulating, breathable, light and, at the same time, warm and waterproof. The aim of our collaboration and partnership with SLAM is to continue to develop a collection of high performance clothing which we will test and implement together.
