About SeaWave SNAP-VPN
SeaWave SNAP-VPN (SeaWave Network Access protocol) is a virtual private network (VPN) client that allows authorized users on shore to securely control

systems, precluding the need for expensive VSAT hardware and subscriptions. Using lower cost Inmarsat hardware and airtime IT professionals from shore can maintain systems throughout their fleet affordably and reliably.
Part of a suite of IT tools called the Remote Management Suite (RMS), SeaWave SNAP-VPN is designed to lower the cost of vessel operations by providing IT professionals on shore with access to remote systems and information. SNAP creates a secure end-to-end, shore-to-vessel connection for maintenance, configuration, diagnostics and training, allowing IT administrators to resolve issues from the home office.
When computer maintenance is handled from shore, a vessel becomes a more efficient workplace with improved system uptime and personnel focused on the jobs they are trained to perform.

How SeaWave SNAP Works
SeaWave SNAP-VPN is configured on the ship using the Standard Client and on shore using the SNAP-VPN Client. Using the SNAP configuration tool built into the Standard Client, the vessel administrator assigns a unique port number to any system on board the vessel. (See Figure
1).
From shore an administrator must use the vessel account
and the SeaWave SNAP-VPN Client to initiate
a
connection to the ship (See Figure 2). The SNAP-VPN
client sends a free request to the vessel to connect over
