Side Scan Sonar CM800

The CM800 side scan sonar comes fully equipped with comprehensive data acquisition, recording and imaging facilities, many of which are normally found only on specialist sonar processors. Operator controlling the side scan sonar All data is recorded on rewritable, removable MO disks, not slow-access tape. Images and records can be viewed at any time in normal geometry, or in slant-range-corrected or map modes. The ‘look back’ facility gives instant, on-line display of hundreds of meters of the recent record. The cursor-centered zoom function magnifies without replicating pixels. The sonar’s NMEA 0183 navigation data interface comes as standard. Also the tow fish layback can be entered. The geographical position of any object is available just by pointing at it with the cursor. Furthermore, the cursor can be used to directly read the dimensions of an object, including its height. Records can be annotated in real time and in post-processing. A printer is used to give pseudo-gray- scale images. Hard copy can be produced, with annotation, in either continuous or snapshot form. For interfacing to mosaic processors there is a choice of analogue or digital output either in real time or from post-processed records.

Navigating software

Besides the side scan sonar the configuration comes with laptop with boat navigation software, where routes can be setout and track info will be stored to keep track of the area covered by the side scan sonar. The software take the uncertainty out of using side scan sonar by logging the position of the tow-fish and by showing the coverage achieved in real time.
