Side scan sonar CM800 TOWFISH
For many search and survey tasks a single frequency HF tow fish is sufficient. Depending on the size of the targets of interest the HF tow fish has coverage out to 150m each side (a 300m swathe) and, particularly at closer distances, also has the resolution needed to identify many common types of object. For example it is usually possible to distinguish
mooring ropes,
anchor chain, anchors, scour marks, pilings, crab pots, rocks (down to the size of a briefcase or less), as well as differences in seabed texture. Note that the high frequency (HF) tow fish take advantage of a unique multiple
sonar transducer configuration to produce powerful, flat-topped transmit and receive beams complemented by additional coverage below the tow fish. This gives wide high quality images and enhanced immunity from surface reflections. The HF tow fish feature a digitally controlled dynamically optimized gain profile, automatic tow fish altitude measurement, a seabed proximity alarm, and a breakaway mechanism with a safety link, and adjustable depression angle for the transducers. Tow fish specifications: HF - 325kHz operation (equiv to industry-standard ‘500kHz’) 150m max range (300m swath) 0.3deg horizontal 2-way beam width 70deg asymmetric vertical beam Adjustable beam depression Pulse length optimized to range Input dynamic range = 96dB (= 16bit) Stainless steel construction 1.39m (54.5”) long; 18kg (40lb) 500m max depth 2 - 6kt operating speed; 12kt max Automatic altitude measurement, i.e. integral tow fish echo sounding Impact safety link, breaks to tow tail-first >
