Text version of the page
Hence a mechanism of self-protection of the polymer is created and the flame cannot be propagated.
So the foam behaviour results from a number of different thermodynamic factors. One of them is a specific relationship between the temperature at which the polymer starts to pyrolize and the decomposition temperature of the additives.
Furthermore potentially toxic and noxious compounds, that could be formed at the prevailing temperature, are reacting with the additives and are transformed into harmless gases.
In such conditions not only a low flammability but also a very good fire reaction is attained as to low density and toxicity smoke emission.
The biggest effort in our research activity has been made to find additives showing a high synergic action to fire in order to keep their concentration relatively low, i.e. not higher than 6% by weight.
A low additive concentration allows to preserve the physical structure of the foam with its fine closed cells.
Due to its particular Chemical-Physical structure, STRUCT-CORE Fl Ml is very compatible with polyester, epoxy and phenol resins.
