going back over 100 years!The story starts with Frederick(Persky) Perkins,a Russian immigrant,
schooled in Germany as a machinist and
tool-and-die maker.He emigrated to the
UnitedStates in the early 1890’s,soonbecoming employed as a machinist forE.W.Bliss & Company in Brooklyn,N.Y.
In the early 1900’s he and a partner
began operating a business out ofthe
basement ofhis house as F.Persky &
Company,Lantern Manufacturer.In
1907,Louis Perkins joined his father inthe business,and together they enlarged
both the line ofproducts and the facili-
ties.By 1912 they had seventeen
employees making a wide range ofmarine lanterns and products.The busi-
ness continued operating until 1913
when Frederick became president of
National Marine Lamp Company,based
out ofForestville,CT.He & his son left
the National Marine Lamp Company in
1916 and moved back to Brooklyn,N.Y.,
wherehe started Perkins Marine LampCorporation and five generations later
PERKO is still a privately owned,family
operated corporation ...very unusual in
today's marketplace.Now housed in a
modern facility ofover 440,000 square
feet in North Miami,Florida,5th gener-
ationfamilycontrol allows us to quicklyrespond to customer and market needs,
and our business philosophy has alwaysemphasized long term commitment to
