In the early 1900’s he and a partner began operating a business out ofthe basement ofhis house as F.Persky & Company,Lantern Manufacturer.In 1907,Louis Perkins joined his father inthe business,and together they enlarged both the line ofproducts and the facili- ties.By 1912 they had seventeen employees making a wide range ofmarine lanterns and products.The busi- ness continued operating until 1913 when Frederick became president of National Marine Lamp Company,based out ofForestville,CT.He & his son left the National Marine Lamp Company in 1916 and moved back to Brooklyn,N.Y., wherehe started Perkins Marine LampCorporation and five generations later PERKO is still a privately owned,family operated corporation ...very unusual in today's marketplace.Now housed in a modern facility ofover 440,000 square feet in North Miami,Florida,5th gener- ationfamilycontrol allows us to quicklyrespond to customer and market needs, and our business philosophy has alwaysemphasized long term commitment to quality leadership in the marine indus-try.Our employees are an integral part ofour business family,and they take per- sonal pride in providing individual attention to what they do and how they do it.Their positive attitude insures that each worker properly inspects PERKO products as they are being produced.Everyone concentrates on customer sat- isfaction.The company Frederick Perkins start-ed was known as Perkins Marine Lamp, Inc.,and the original focus was on the manufacture ofhand formed sheet metal products for the marine market.These ship navigation lights,cowl venti- lators,chart cases and other hand formed items fabricated from brass,cop-
