N AVIGATION Globes come in 3 basic types:1.White all-round F ul lOu t pu t allows for full cockpit illumination.Choose traditional or modern styles. 2.White all-round R e d uc e dGlar e helps preserve night vision whileunder way.Choose clear top coastal or inland. 3.B e d uc e dg lar e lights toinsure that light output is correct. The most common rake angles are 0°,5°and 16°.Custom made poles often have non- standardrake angles.Choose from 0°,5°or fully adjustable versions (Delta and Omega Series). Most manufacturers insert screws into an upper or lower loca-tion on the pole to position the light and hold it properly orient- ed in the base. The location ofthis screw varies by manufacturer and model.Determine the key slot screw position needed for thebase in your boat for boat or the base you select and match it to the pole you select. All Perko plug in bases accept the upper screw posi- tionand allPerko lights have an upper screw.Perko Alpha,Delta and OmegaSeries replacement lights offer the option to locate the screwin either place. i-C olo r lights are used on the bow instead ofa fixed surfacemount light.Choose from models with or without integral white utility light.Rake is determined by the pole, base and base locationangles.Rake is important for all r L IGHTSFOR

4.Determine the Pole Length 5.Decide on a Collar Type6.Determine the Number ofPins

Navigation rules state thatthe center ofthe bulb fila- ment ofwhite lights must be mountedat least 1 meter (approx 40”) above center of the filament ofthe red/green lights. The "vertical height" ofa light is measured from the deck ofthe boat to the center ofthe light filament. Most pole lights (all of Perko’s) are sold by their "nominal(or approximate) overall length".Three factors affect the difference betweenoverall length and vertical height.1) The depth the pole goes into the base is typically less than two inches.2) The distance from the filament to the top ofthe light is typically less than an inch.3) Rake angle can shorten the vertical height by as much as an inch(forbends under 16 degrees). So,as a general rule, the installed"vertical height" will be between 2 and 4 inches less than the nominal length ofthe pole.Select the shortestlight that willinsure that the requirements are met after takingthis difference into account.Be sure the light is long enough to beseen over any obstructions.Ifthis light is too long to store easily, consider a fold-in-halflight for easier storage. Some manufacturers use different types ofcollars to assure that their pole lights are held securely in the base. All Perko lights are shipped with at least one collar (an eccentric collar,a large threaded collar or a small threadedcollar).Determine whether a collar is needed for the base in your boat or the base you want to use and match it by collar type to the pole you select. All Perko bases require collars. 2Pin3Pin 3Pin Base KeySlotScrewLocations
Bi-color lights are available with and without anintegral white utility light. Those lights with a utility light require 3 contact pins.Determine if2 or 3 con- tact pins are needed for the base in your boat or the base you select and match it to the pole you select.
