And you'll takepride in owning her. Whether you want totake her across oceans or gunkholing along the coast, a Dana 24 will be the perfectaddition to your family. SAILING RIG
The bowsprit with bronze eyeband form asolid base for the teak bowsprit platform, stainless steel pulpit and heavy-duty anchorroller. The anchor can be kept rigged and readyto let go at a moment's notice: a vital safetyfeature on any well-found cruising boat.At the base of the mast is a stainless steelplate with secure attachment points for blocks, shackles or other gear. Deck drains are moldedin and trimmed in bronze to keep side decks dry.All deck hardware, including winches, cleatsand chocks, is solid bronze, installed with fullbacking plates bedded on both sides. Outboardgenoa track, for precision sail trim is part of thestandard equipment, along with a ball-bearingmainsheet traveller installed across the transom. Cruising sailors need a rig that is simpleand easy to maintain and repair, yet onethat's hefty enough to stand up to the rigorsof the open sea. That's why the Dana 24 hasa sailing rig designed and built for strength, durability and reliability. Her aluminum spars are coated with atwo-part linear polyurethane finish for easeof maintenance. Standing rigging ispremium quality 1x19 stainless steel wireleading from open-body forged bronzeturnbuckles. Chainplates of 1/2" wide type304 stainless steel are mounted outboard ofthe hull instead of through the deck, assuring watertight integrity and greaterstrength to the mast by providing a wider shroud base. The chainplates are thru-bolted to stainless steel backing plates. While the Dana's balanced sailplan givesher power and maneuverability on all points of sail, the small size of her individual sailsmakes her easy to handle by every crewmember in any kind of weather. THE COCKPIT
The cockpit becomes the nucleus of thecruising boat. It is as much a part of theliving space as it is a part of the deck. It's agathering place for swapping sea stories, another dining area and an additionalstateroom on balmy summer nights. It mustbe comfortable underway and at the marine dock, aswell as provide protection from wind andwater, and convenient access to gear. TheDana's cockpit does it all. The 6'3" longseats are perfect for sunbathing or snoozing.Comfortable seating is assured by molded in contoured seat backs. Her high coamingsoffer protection from wind and water whileher integral winch islands allow forconvenient and efficient sail handling. Largeseat lockers provide plenty of storage for sails and cruising gear.A high bridge deck adds to her structuralintegrity and watertightness in stormyweather, while two over-sized cockpit drainsallow fast self-bailing.As ship's engineer, you will be delightedto see that engine access has been providedfrom the cockpit as well as from inside theboat. A removable watertight access hatchhas been provided in the cockpit sole, so thatx-ray vision and a rubber spine will not be necessary to check the oil. ON DECK
Underway, the Dana 24 provides thesame feeling of security and safetyassociated with much larger boats. For surefooting, the deck is completely surroundedby bulwarks, a full five inches at the bowtopped by a custom-fitted teak caprail.Caprail joints are locked together with"butterfly" inserts to insure that they willnever separate. Here is the shipwright'straditional craft at its finest, the skillfuljoining of wooden parts into a beautiful andfunctional part of the yacht's appointments.Double rail, stainless steel bow and sternpulpits and 27" high stanchions supportsturdy lifelines. Pulpits and stanchions arebolted to the deck through full stainlesssteel backing plates. Safety is furtherinsured when going forward in heavyweather by the installation of four thru-bolted teak handrails that run the length ofthe cabin top. PERFORMANCE DESIGN
Bill Crealock, well-known as a designer ofperformance cruising boats, wanted the Dana24 to have the same qualities of speed, balance and comfort embodied in the largerPacific Seacraft 34 and Pacific Seacraft 37. He wanted a boat that would be easy to sail, and that would sail well. The Dana 24 exemplifies his success onall counts. Sophisticated hull design and abalanced sailplan give her the power to takeon any sea while maintaining comfort andease of handling for the singlehander or theshort-handed crew. The Dana 24 combines moderatedisplacement with a high ballast ratio toprovide speed, stability and a sea-kindlycruising performance. And that fineunderbody gives her another advantage that'soften lacking in other small cruisers—outstanding windward ability. Reachingalong in the warm tradewinds may be part ofthe dream, but beating to windward is part of the reality. Her long keel and cutaway forefoot givedirectional stability and superb balance formaneuverability under both sail and power. One of the joys of owning a small cruisingboat is the ability to gunkhole, to drop thehook in a secluded anchorage or explore atucked-away little cove that's inaccessible tobigger, deeper boats. The Dana's shoal draftmakes her the perfect boat for such plea-sures. She sails into hidden lagoons with thesame ease that she takes to the open ocean.
