Silva NX2 Steer Pilot This is our most innovative and effective analogue instrument, integrating the electronic compass, water-speed sensor and navigation data from the GPS to create a single item of information, the needle! The instrument provides the helmsman with an exact course to steer down to the last degree, delivering updated steer information five times per second from the Server. The instrument needle reveals the smallest deviation from the intended course or preferred wind angle.
The Steer Pilot will also guide you to steer by the needle using a Polar diagram as reference. Downwind, the Steer Pilot will enable you to steer the optimum course for the best VMG, updated five times per second.
So, how do I use it? When used with a wheel, just imagine that the instrument needle is connected with an invisible wire to the centre of your wheel. As a deviation develops, simply turn the wheel as if it was connected to the needle, back to a straight up position, it's that simple!
When using a tiller, imagine that the end of the tiller is "fixed" at the tip of the needle and that you could pull the needle back to its straight up position just by "dragging" it there, it just works! After some minutes training you will be able to steer your boat in a straight line without even thinking!
