PRODUCT SPECIFICATION GUIDE
MULTI-TRACK FOAM LUFF SYSTEM
Overview
The Roller Furling Genoa is designed for a broad range of conditions and to enhance the performance of these sails, we offer our Multi-Track Foam Luff System®. This system helps to overcome the mechanical short comings of all furling systems, which tend to roll the ends of the sail at a faster (tighter) rate than the body of the sail. For reference, imagine wringing out a wet beach towel! The Multi-Track Foam luff compensates for this action by making the "roll" of the midsection a large diameter which results in an even reduction of the sail depth and much improved performance in reefed conditions.
Correctly shaped sails generally have quite a lot of induced shape at the broadest section of the sail (L.P.). As the sail is furled, more cloth should be removed from this area than elsewhere in the sail. This is impossible without luff foam. By making the Multi-Track Foam Luff in an elliptical shape to fit the draft profile of the genoa we achieve correct sail shape more precisely for a broad range of wind conditions. This results in better performance, handling and ease of sailing while reefed.
The Multi-Track Foam Luff System offers another unique advantage: on traditional foam luff systems with a single ply foam, the pad becomes permanently distorted after it has been rolled up for any period of time. Our Multi-Track System is made up of individual one inch foam strips which provides total furling flexibility without ever distorting the foam or sail shape.
