What the future holds for the CII
Final testing has just concluded in Australia and, after over a year of exhaustive testing, rigidly
one design sails, and spars, have just beenplaced into production by the manufacturers. AllCII rigs and sails offered by these licensed manu-
facturers will be purchased from single-sourcesuppliers ensuring uniform design, quality andprice, worldwide. The first event to use the CII will be the Eurocupwhich is being run as an owner/invitational event
on Lake Iseo in Northern Italy, June 21-27. A largenumber of
charter boats are being made availableto MNA’s free of charge by the Italian builder,
Nautivela, for those MNAs who want a first handlook at the Byte with its new rig. There will be a separate start at the World Cham-pionship’s this year in Canada for the CIIs butthey will race for the International President’s
Trophy as there can only be one World’s Cham-pion in a Class and the CII is not a separateRecognized Class. Nevertheless, all indications
are that the attendance will be heavy in the CII. The International sailing scene The Byte is no stranger on the International sail-
ing scene. It has been twice used successfully asthe female singlehander for the ISAF World Youth
Championships - in Australia and again inCanada. In both these Championships, themajority of competitors came from the Europe
Class and average weights in the events were63.0 and 62.0 kgs, respectively. The Byte is nowone of only two
boats designated by ISAF for use
in these Championships.Three World Championships have been held (theClass has a preference for holding its World’severy two years) and they have been won twiceby a male with a female runner up and once by a
female with a male runner up. All our National,Continental and World Championships are singlestart, open championships. International manufacturing The boat is already built on three Continents anda third has just been added with the start-up of a
plant in Sao Paolo, Brazil. They will be hostingthe first South American event for the Byte in theCII in September. See over. The boat is presently in production in the UK,Canada, Singapore, Italy, and now Brazil. With
the interest that has been generated by the CII,additional builders have requested licenses in thecoming year in Australia, Trinidad, and Argentina. >
Note the closed leech on the standard Byte rig on theright. In the light conditions pictured, there is nothing
the sailor can do to open that leech - and it is slow.
