ONLY A MUSTANG IS A MUSTANG
Flattering as it is to have a world-class brand name that's become a household name, it can also cause confusion. Every time someone else's product is referred to as a Mustang, it fails to live up to our standards. So beware... only if it has
the seahorse is it a superior breed.
Cold Water Survival
Research Division
Human Engineering
Cold water immersion is a danger for anyone working on or near the water. How long a person can survive in cold water largely depends on both the water's temperature and the thermal insulation of the victim's protective clothing.
To create the most effective protection against hypothermia, Mustang begins by evaluating the clothing's Immersed Clo value which depicts the level of thermal insulation a garment provides. Simply speaking, we determine the rate at which heat is lost from the body, as well as the difference in temperature between skin and water. From the Immersed Clo values, predictions can be made of the rate at which a person's body temperature will drop in cold water.
The following graph indicates preselected insulation benchmarks of Immersed Clo values and the corresponding estimation of survival time in calm water (assuming a thin person with a 5.5° F (3° C) drop in body core temperature).
To evaluate the protection provided by a Mustang product, look up its calm water Immersed Clo value (found alongside the product listing in this catalog), and use the chart below.
You have to go to extraordinary lengths to make extraordinary products. For Mustang, that meant setting up our own world-class research and development division. Mustang's Research Division exemplifies who we are.
With our Research Division behind us, no one in the industry has the knowledge we have. Knowledge that is, day in and day out, applied to the technological advancements that save lives in the most perilous conditions. Whether you're a weekend sailor, a snowmobiler, an outdoorsman or an F-22 pilot who has to bail out over the ocean, Mustang has a product to marine suit your requirements.
Since its inception in 1989, Mustang's Research Division has used its unique blend of science, innovation and commitment to build a high profile client list that's unmatched anywhere in the world.
Our Research Division won Mustang a NASA contract to develop an inflatable lifejacket for its space shuttle crews; masterminded the survival suits worn by the U.S., Canadian and New Zealand Coast Guards; and were selected to develop state-of-the-art flight suits for F-22 pilots.
From first design to final testing, our Research Division makes sure that every Mustang product lives up to our total quality commitment and is the standard by which all others are measured.
Nature makes no compromises, so neither do we.
Human Engineering is the term we use for building the ultimate in comfort, functionality and safety features into every Mustang product.
Naturally, the ultimate test of this process is whether it saves lives in life threatening situations. Mustang's numerous testimonials, from all over the world, prove we have no equals.
But there's another aspect to safety that's crucial to the everyday life of people who work in hostile environments. Wearability. Because if you can't move freely in your work clothes, you are at risk.
At Mustang, every new safety innovation is meticulously designed and tested to ensure it contributes to greater comfort and on-the-job performance.
The ultimate survival apparel carries three key attributes:
• exceptional hypothermia
• environment protection
• superior flotation performance
AirSoft™ Foam
Engineered to enhance both flotation and hypothermia protection, this system consists of an ultra-soft, closed-cell foam that provides the ultimate in everyday wearability.
