NB 1367 SPIRIT OF BRITAIN AND NB 1368 SPIRIT OF FRANCE FOR P&O FERRIES The newest and the most advanced technology is being utilised in the design and construction of these car-passenger ferries. Special attention is paid to environmentally friendly and energy efficient solu- tions and safety. With a gross tonnage of 47,592 and 213 meters in lenght, the ferries are the largest vessels to fit the present facilities in the ports of Dover (UK) and Calais (FR).They are also the first Channel ferries designed to manoeuvre under their own power in winds of up to 50 knots in the ports of Dover and Calais. Spirit of Britain was delivered from the STX Finland Rauma shipyard in January 2011 and Spirit of France one year later, in January 2012. Both ships have space for more than 180 freight vehicles, more than doubling the freight carrying capacity of the ships they replace. The ships also provide a third vehicle deck for up to 195 cars.
