commercial and military craft. He has spent 23 years running his own firm, which has primarily focused on the design and engineering of motoryachts of all types. His firm's yachts have been built in the U.S., Canada, Holland, Taiwan, and China, by such firms as Christensen, Westport, Diaship/Heesen, West Bay/SonShip, Queenship/Caribe, McKinna, Heisley, PAMA, Rayburn, and Boat canoe Cove among others. Design projects have included custom and production motor yachts from 42-160', built in Europe, Asia, and North America; fast passenger, fire, fishing, and military vessels from 17' to 170'; and consulting on sailing and fishing vessels from 32' to 110'. Particular emphasis is given to custom yachts, high-speed vessels, including SWATHs (submerged hull catamarans) based on their very successful 87-footer. His designs are highly regarded worldwide for their accomplishments in vessel performance, propulsion, arrangement, and styling.
Apollonio vessels operate as a professional engineering entity, able to meet the most stringent requirements for safety and seaworthiness, as well as structural and mechanical integrity. At the same time, Apollonio insists on producing vessels that are very good looking, well proportioned, and of long-lasting style. They all incorporate important human engineering factors that make each boat a pleasure to be on, easy to move about and featuring nice aspects of light and visibility. Because Apollonio was an artist before becoming an engineer, great versatility is offered in themes and appearance. He deals primarily in custom projects that are tailored exactly for each owner, preferring to meet the client's needs without trying to sell him something that is not right for him.
Juan Carlos Espinosa
Exterior Styling and Interior Layout
Juan Carlos Espinosa is a licensed, registered Architect in both the states of Florida and Illinois. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Urban Planning degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985.
Mr. Espinosa was first exposed to the field of yacht design while employed by a Chicago firm commissioned to design what would be, in 1985, the largest aluminum mega-yacht in the United States.
Ever since, JC, as Mr. Espinosa is known in the industry, has dedicated his efforts exclusively to the exterior and interior styling of the custom yacht and production boat Industries. The firm's design work is published regularly by the most prominent publications in the field.
McKinna Yachts and JC Espinosa began collaborating back in 1997 when McKinna Yachts decided to give their whole line of production yachts a "fresh start". To that effect, Espinosa provided a new modern-elegant look that was followed by a complete re-engineering of the product line including: systems, materials, workmanship and above all the implementation of stringent quality control to guarantee the complete success of the "new line"
The directive to JC was simple, to provide a modern-stylish exterior design that would house a functional and open arrangement. Furthermore, the interiors should sport finely detailed McKinna Yachts
