They are all versatile and flexible specialists in hull form, ride comfort, propulsion, structure, and noise control. Apollonio has been a Licensed Professional Engineer (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) since 1977, and is a 1969 graduate of the University of Michigan (NA & ME). He is a native of Maine, where he had designed and built three boats by the age of 17, then subsequently worked as a professional boat builder before attending college. His 35-year professional career has included twelve years with propulsion and builders of advanced commercial and military craft. He has spent 23 years running his own firm, which has primarily focused on the design and engineering of motoryachts of all types. His firm's yachts have been built in the U.S., Canada, Holland, Taiwan, and China, by such firms as Christensen, Westport, Diaship/Heesen, West Bay/SonShip, Queenship/Caribe, McKinna, Heisley, PAMA, Rayburn, and Canoe Cove among others. Design projects have included custom and production motor yachts from 42'-160', built in Europe, Asia, and North America; fast passenger, fire, fishing, and military vessels from 17' to 170'; and consulting on sailing and fishing vessels from 32' to 110'. Particular emphasis is given to custom yachts, high-speed vessels, including SWATHs (submerged hull catamarans) based on their very successful 87-footer. His designs are highly regarded worldwide for their accomplishments in vessel performance, propulsion, arrangement, and styling. Apollonio vessels operate as a professional engineering entity, able to meet the most stringent requirements for safety and seaworthiness, as well as structural and mechanical integrity. At the same time, Apollonio insists on producing vessels that are very good looking, well proportioned, and of long-lasting style. They all incorporate important human engineering factors that make each boat a pleasure to be on, easy to move about and featuring nice aspects of light and visibility. Because Apollonio was an artist before becoming an engineer, great versatility is offered in themes and appearance. He deals primarily in custom projects that are tailored exactly for each owner, preferring to meet the client's needs without trying to sell him something that is not right for him.
