The MP-S delivers spinnaker-typeperformance without the trauma. It hasbeen developed over several years to givethe cruising sailor extra performance and,in light conditions, close reaching, due toits asymmetric cut.

Now you can forget about the cost and complication ofspinnaker poles and specialised equipment - all that’srequired is a halyard, a sheet and an adjustable tack line.The MP-S has an LP of 165% of J and is considerablylarger than a full size genoa, but not as big as aconventional spinnaker. To improve handling andalleviate some of the control problems associated withspinnakers the MP-S has a narrower, flatter head whichalso lowers the centre of power. Its asymmetric, tri-radial design exploits the strong warp characteristics ofnylon to control shape and minimise distortion.Constructed in spinnaker nylon, colour combinationscan be made to individual choice subject, of course, topanel layout. An approximate guide to cloth weights is:up to 27 ft - 0.75 oz27 to 60 ft - 1.5 ozover 60 ft - 2.2 ozThe MP-S couldn’t be easier to set. Attach the tack stropto the stem and lead the single sheet to a block on thequarter; simply head off the wind and hoist the MP-S inthe shadow of the mainsail.For broad reaching and running the tack is eased upfrom the stem. For close reaching it should be hardeneddown to create a more genoa-like sail. Theseadjustments can be made manually at the bow, but it ismuch easier to have a block at the tack and lead the lineaft to the cockpit.To drop the MP-S, bear off onto a broad reach andcollapse the sail in the lee of the mainsail. Let the tack goand lower the halyard.Even gybing is simple - ease the sheet so the sailstreams in front of the bow, walk the sheet round theforestay and aft to the opposite quarter.Finally, for even easier handling, the MP-S can becombined with the Hood Squeeza. A sock & fibreglassbell that simply squeezes the MPS inside ready for usenext time.
