| | | The Hampton Yacht building Company was established in 1992 by the Chen family and is one of the first companies from Taiwan to start building yachts in mainland China. Jeff Chen, Chairman of Hampton Yachts, was educated in the U.S. and earned a graduate degree from Stanford University in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. He is also a certified Professional Engineer and has more than 20 years experience in the boat building industry. The Hampton plant in Shanghai covers nearly 50 acres and currently employs 200 skilled workers. The key positions in the Hampton shipyard have been filled with the very best people from the top yards in Taiwan, including 2 highly experienced in-house naval architects and 7 engineers who supervise each production process. Many of Hampton Yachts' hulls are designed in cooperation with renowned naval architect, Howard Apollonio, who also serves as design consultant for Hampton. A number of his ideas were incorporated into Hampton's new line of motor yachts. | | |

The lower labor costs in China allows Hampton to include an extensive list of standard features in each yacht, features that most other builders would consider options. For example, Kevlar with vinylester resin for hull reinforcement, Wesmar stabilizer system, stain-Less steel aircraft styled pilothouse doors, Aqua 22 H.S. shafts, thick 55 mils veneers with matching hardwood, exotic burl wood counter tops, and LCD TV's in salon and staterooms.
